About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Have recently received my Pensionado visa and am a legal resident of Panama.

ABOUT ME

A true New Englander. My ancestors didn't come over on the Mayflower, but they knew people who did. My father's side of the family arrived in Massachusetts in 1630 and my mom's family a couple of years later. I grew up in the small town of Orleans, Mass., on Cape Cod and then lived in New Orleans for 10 years. Believe me...New Orleans was a lot more fun! Left New Orleans in '86 and will never go back. After the destruction caused by Hurricane Katrina it would break my heart to see what was once my favorite place in the whole world.

Have lived in southeastern Florida off and on since coming to study at the University of Miami in '61. Have been here continuously since '91 and now ready to retire to Panama.

I always loved boats and after years of working as a newspaper reporter, magazine editor, advertising copy writer, hospital public relations director and freelance writer I started to work on boats. I spend 20 years operating yachts and small commercial craft all over the eastern half of the United States as well as on the French Riviera and the Spanish Costa del Sol. I ran crew boats in the offshore oil fields in southern Louisiana and was mate on a tug boat in the Mississippi River for a while. I spent another dozen or so years repairing boats as well.

I bought a small sailboat of my own and single-handed her on a nine-month cruise through Mexico, Belize and Guatemala.

PHILOSOPHY

A small boat and a suitcase full of money beat a 40-footer tied to a bank every time.
