A call center is typically a bricks and mortar building that seats many callers in one large room. Most of the time, callers read a script that pops up on their screen for either inbound or outbound programs. Call centers use equipment such as predictive dialers. These predictive dialers dial numbers at a very fast rate, and upon receiving an answer, the call is routed to any waiting caller sitting in a cubicle near hundreds, sometimes thousands of other callers in the room/center. When the calls are routed in this way, there is almost ALWAYS a pause of several seconds before the caller comes on the line, even with today’s most sophisticated technology, this pause will be easily detectable. Often, the person – YOUR POTENTIAL CUSTOMER- who is being contacted utilizing these predictive dialers is frustrated by this and it immediately tells them that it is a computer or call center calling, not a live person. Many calls are lost or dropped this way, but more importantly, the customer – YOUR CUSTOMER, knows you have outsourced your calling to a call center (if they wait for the caller to come on the line and don’t just hang up first). If the call does not drop or if the customer does not hang up before the “caller” answers the call routed to them, then there are other clues that will give away the fact that you have outsourced.
“Call Center” callers are all in a large room, which creates “call center noise”. We’ve all heard it, the background sound of many other telemarketers talking on the phone at the same time, it is unavoidable when utilizing a call center. Call centers have supervisors walking around a room, and often offer sophisticated whispering/listening equipment. Can you imagine what it would be like if you were making a call to a prospective customer and had someone whispering in your ear? Would you be able to focus on the conversation? Most likely you would lose your train of thought and the flow of the call would be disrupted.
