ABOUT ME

Born in Calgary, grew up in Calgary and North Idaho, where I also went to school. Studied abroad for a year in France. It was probably the coolest experience of my life, and made me realize that my life won't be complete without a lot more foreign travel and meeting new people. I graduated from the University of Idaho with a BA in history. I'm an avid rock music listener, and I write and record songs with my brother. We're hoping to make a career out of it once he's graduated college. Right now I'm simply trying to productively fill up the time until that happens.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

At the moment I'm just in need of a place to stay while visiting Moscow, ID (I have friends there whom I want to see, but none of them have the extra accomodations). Later in the year, when I get my own place again, my couch will be open to anyone who needs it. I love the concept of couch surfing and the opportunity it gives us to meet new people, travel cheaply, and help others do the same.

Interests

Music, literature, film, philosophy, history -- all fall under the heading of cultural history, which was my favorite area in college. I also love good food and liquor, and travelling, especially by train.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

When the Icelandic volcano erupted in spring 2010, I was in London getting ready to fly back to my studies in Southern France. All flights were grounded, and my friend and I were stranded with no money for anything but the worst hotels. Never knowing for sure what the next step would be, we took a bus and a taxi to reach the rest stop outside the Chunnel, eventually hitched a free ride to France with a busload of Scandinavians, walked for miles along a freeway to Calais in the middle of the night, attempted to hitchhike for half a day with no success, and finally, during a transportation strike, we found a series of trains to take us home. It took us three solid days, with no more than twelve hours of sleep in that whole period.
