ABOUT ME

I am a freegan (some call me the granddaddy of freeganism!) Freegans are people who employ alternative strategies for living based on limited participation in the conventional economy and minimal consumption of resources.

PHILOSOPHY

I embrace community, generosity, social concern, freedom, cooperation, and sharing in opposition to a society based on materialism, moral apathy, competition, conformity, and greed.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

My house is always open to travelers and social activists. I have been billeting people and have been billeted myself for many years. I will inform people I meet about all the events and happenings in Ottawa. I welcome war resisters.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I "couchsurfed" throughout Europe for 23 years, starting protests, spreading information, and working with several peace and environmental movements.

I collect newspaper articles on peace and the environment. I also play the organ every Sunday for a church in Alexandra.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The long American–European march from San Francisco to Moscow in 1960/61. I had the pleasure to meet and discuss with Nina Khrushchev, the wife of President Nikita Khrushchev. The march's aim was to symbolize the importance of cooperation among the different peace movements and to demonstrate the global nature of the protests against nuclear weapons. I have lots of stories of the experiences along he way, especially when crossing into eastern Germany!
