I am a Progressive activist peripherally involved in Occupy Nashville. I am passionate about human rights and equality. I am committed to the task of improving the democratic process and government of my community and nation.
As Jimmy Buffett says, "Jimmy had money one time",though not at the moment. My professional career was destroyed by an ambulance chaser lawyer, a divorce, and my own stupidity; so I'm making do on Social Security and my wife's income...that's just fine, for now anyway. I have simple tastes and am adaptable. I'm quiet, but curious and passionate to the point of being a risk-taker, if a bit timidly. I'm willing to stand for what I stand for.
I'm here to make a difference. Earlier, it was helping the sick and saving lives; now it's improving our society. It's all about the fact that we are all in this together; and we need to approach each other and our sacred environment with love and respect.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I'm an organizer and rabble-rouser by conventional American standards, which is to say kind of white bread in the real world. I'm quite active online. I encourage others a lot.
Almost none other than staying with friends while travelling.
politics, news, reading, web surfing, organizing, cars (I have a 1993 classic Mini, sadly awaiting my mechanical expertise), sailing, snow skiing (pitiful intermediate level, but fun), model railroading, history, science, medicine, personal relationships, loving what is...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Saved many people's lives as a surgeon, Survived cancer, Fallen from a tree with a running chainsaw and lived to fight another day, driven a steam locomotive, crossed the continental divide into California in early spring from rock strewn high desert into lush meadows filled with wildflowers, heard the sound of a sniper's bullet pass my right ear.
