About Me

To explore the world before entering the real world

Hi! I'm a 21 year old student about to enter her senior year at the University of Maryland, College Park. I'm have just finished up my medical school applications, so I intend to go to medical school next year. I first heard about CouchSurfing when I studied abroad in London last semester. I never participated, but I had a few friends who had great experiences, so I signed up, but never really had a chance to try it out myself, either due to time or travel buddies or things that just came up. Living in London was an amazing experience, and though it is definitely not as exotic as some of the other places CSers have lived, I loved the city and exploring other parts of Europe. Living in Europe showed me how people can live in better ways than in America and really broadened my perspectives to re-evaluate what I want to do and be in life. I'm also more confident in myself and willing to explore. Now I think I would be willing to go backpacking across the world by myself! I would love to live abroad at some point at my life, which considering my career choice might be hard, but I'm looking into international medicine and Foreign Service Opportunities. I'm still in school, but I'm hoping to be able to travel the summer after I graduate (next year) for the whole summer. And then in medical school, pursue some international electives and maybe even take a year off to study abroad again!

Still trying to figure that out...but I'm a pretty social and laid back person. I get along with most people, but I have high expectations for my close friends. I'm an outgoing and take charge person too--I have opinions about things and am not afraid to voice them (I usually end up planning events or picking things to do out of my friends). I want to become a doctor because I want to help people in the most fundamental and important way possible because without our health, we have nothing. I also want to join this profession because I believe its members are fundamentally good and strive to always do what's right.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Unfortunately, my resources are limited right now because I live in a college dorm, so I'm pretty much only interested in surfing when I have time to travel. But I would definitely love to participate more in CS when I'm older and have my own place.

I've never actually surfed myself, but hosted a few friends in my London dorm and heard amazing stories from people who have surfed. Two friends told me of an unforgettable experience in Bordeaux and really made me want to try it out myself!

Music, Movies, and Books

I like action and epic movies like LOTR, Avatar, Pirates of the Caribbean I (by no means inclusive), those types. The last movie I saw in theaters was Inception and I loved it. Don't have much time to sit still and watch movies anymore though.

Not a big music connoisseur. I like music you can dance to but also like classical music and soundtrack music from movies.

I used to read voraciously as a kid, but unfortunately don't have as much time now. I used to read a lot of fantasy novels, and then I moved onto fiction and literature, and now have started reading non-fiction. I've recently read Atul Gawande's, a surgeon at Harvard Medical School, books "Better" and "Complications" on the medical profession and loved them. I also really like Malcolm Gladwell and The World is Flat by Thomas Friedman (who is the father of one of my high school classmates!).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I saw the 2008 Beijing Olympics! After studying abroad in Shanghai, I traveled to Beijing to see my family where I saw the overall gymnastics competition where Nastia Lukin won the gold medal and watched the closing ceremony fireworks from the rooftop of my aunt's apartment.
