Chi sono

CURRENT MISSION

Embrace expatriatism (is that a word) for a while!

ABOUT ME

I'm not generally very good at filling in this kind of field (which should probably tell you something about me on its own), so I'll need some time to think about how I want to answer that. For now though, here are a couple things that spring to mind:

I absolutely love meeting new people, especially those who make a point to be as open to new experiences and ideas as possible. On the same token, I'm always open to questions about my past, my current self, and my future. There is very little that is off-limits around me, and it's difficult to offend me if it's not intentional.

I love music in as many forms as I can discover and experience it: playing my piano (I've played most of my life), dancing ridiculously, singing along as loudly as I can, going to concerts, and spending hours late at night searching for obscure music that I've never heard before. That's one reason I love to meet people: discovering new music through them. My musical tastes are always changing and expanding.

I value and love my closest friends more than just about anything else in my life. School and work will always be secondary to me.

I hope those friends can shed a bit more light on who I am to you than I can!

PHILOSOPHY

Time is not linear. The system that humans have created to try and understand time however, is. Therefore, events like death and birth should only be significant in relation to that human system of "time." Think: the Tralfamadorians from Kurt Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse-Five.

Traveling is one of the most important things a person can do to change and expand their mindset. Traveling to places where you won't be entirely comfortable is even more important. Your mind must first be unsettled before it can shift.

("Stole" this from a friend, but I'm a firm believer) When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My biggest Couchsurfing experience was a solo road trip from Colorado to California in 2009. I stayed with hosts in Salt Lake City, Reno, San Francisco, Oakland, and Las Vegas, and I loved every minute of it! What a fantastic way to meet amazing people and discover (or rediscover) amazing places.

Interessi

In no particular order: music, graphic design (print and web), art in general, particularly new approaches to "art in general," staying up far too late learning about new things, exploring both the natural and urban world, spending lots of time doing pretty much anything with close friends, reading, not watching TV, eating cake like it should be eaten (no plates, just dig in, whilst sitting on the floor), being ridiculous with friends

Musica, film e libri

Music -- This is a long and ever-changing list, but here are some of the bands/artists that have been important to me as of late (and in no particular order): Radiohead, Elbow, Doves, The Avett Brothers, The Beatles, Sigur Ros, Band of Horses, The Decemberists, Of Montreal, Led Zeppelin, Ludovico Einaudi (an Italian pianist), Claude Debussy, Chopin, Dave Brubeck, Miles Davis, Charles Mingus, Incubus, Sufjan Stevens, The Flaming Lips... I love hearing new bands and getting recommendations too, so please tell me about all of your favorites!

Books -- Kurt Vonnegut, Neal Stephenson, George R.R. Martin, Milan Kundera

Insegna, impara, condividi

Even though I'm still learning so much personally, I enjoy teaching people about real human relationships--not "relationships" in the sense of the American media's portrayal of relationships. That includes all types of relationships, whether it's between people who consider themselves coworkers, classmates, "just friends," or "something more" than that. However, I do my best to only give advice when someone asks for or needs it, because advice does nothing but irritate those who aren't open to it. :-)

I'm a Bachelor in Fine Arts (it sounds advanced, but it's not really), so I like teaching people what I can about art, escpecially design. I also love to show people how creative they can be, even if they don't think they are!

I am way too familiar with almost anything related to computers and the internet (mostly web design and development). However, I find teaching/talking about "real" things is more interesting. :-)
