About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Building some Traveling Karma!

ABOUT ME

I'm a South Africa living abroad in the US of A, having fun in Chicago, despite its reputation for the worst weather in the world.

I've been traveling off and on for the last few years, and now that I'm settled (for a short time at least), I thought it was time to give back to other travelers so that they can have the great times I've had.

PHILOSOPHY

Eh, whatever, its a rave dave.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I offer a pristine couch (Nicknamed Oscar the Grouch, for reasons that will become clear when you see him) to road weary travelers in need of a decent rec point in the Windy City.

I'm keen to hear your stories, maybe drinking a beer or two over a barbeque, and generally having a good time. I've done a lot of traveling over the years, and now I'm making sure my traveling Karma is all in good order.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I'm not a Couch Surfing couch surfer, but I have traveled a lot for free, mostly through getting people to provide me with a room and some chow for a few nights of music and entertainment (I was in a traveling band). I've been up and down the coast of South Africa, and to most of the countries that surround the Beloved Country.

I've hustled and bustled across France, Germany, Belgium and Holland staying with friends of friends and family that I never knew I had.

I've lived in Aspen, New York, Philidelphia, New Orleans and now Chicago, sleeping in some pretty weird places along the way (like behind a mates bed for 7 months).

I try and travel when ever I can (Mexico you're next, then the west coast, and then Brazil and Peru and and and)

Interests

I'm a big fan of cities, and I spend a lot of my time considering how to make them better. This is my job, but it started out as my hobby. I'm also very into music of all kinds, so leave me some fun songs for the player if you are in a giving mood.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm a big fan of all books, especially well written ones. Huge Ayn Rand fan, although I'm still trying to work out if she's full of crap or not. Terry Pratchet for the hard times, Keruac for the really hard times and Bukowski for the drunk times. Bring books, I'll trade with you. Music, anything good; The Clash, Otis Reading, The Doors, The Dead Weather. Anything good really. Hip is not too important.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Oh man, I've seen a lot of amazing things. The most amazing thing I've ever seen was watching the sun come up on the top of Kilimanjaro, after fighting freezing wind and driving snow up to the summit during one of the worst nights of my life. The way that the light catches the tiny streaks of cloud as they curve up over the mountain is a sight I’ll never forget.

Teach, Learn, Share

I would like to learn to play as many instuments as possible. So if you play the Mongolian Sheep Harp, yeh, I'd like to learn that.
