About Me

CURRENT MISSION

My husband and I live in Melbourne and both work as physiotherapists. We will be working as volunteer physiotherapists at the Commonwealth Games being held on the Gold Coast in April this year and are hoping to find someone to stay with from April 5 - 15. We will be doing volunteer shifts nearly every day, and hope to get along to see a few events as well! I will be doing my shifts at the Commonwealth Games Village in Southport, and my husband Nic will be doing his shifts at Currumbin Beachfront.

ABOUT ME

Easygoing, sporty, social, outgoing mother of three beautiful little girls. My husband and I have a physiotherapy and pilates business in Melbourne. We are an active family who love getting involved in outdoor activities in the sun, the sea and in the snow. (Note - we will be leaving our kids in Melbourne with their Grandparents when we come up to the Gold Coast to work at The Games!)

PHILOSOPHY

I am a lover of life and so many of the wonderful things that the word has to offer. There are always new adventures and fabulous experiences just waiting out there...

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I heard about couch surfing when I was at the end of my time living in the UK and thought that it sounded like a great idea! When I have done volunteer physiotherapy work at Olympic and Commonwealth Games in the past I have been lucky enough to have been a part of billeting programs with host families which has been fantastic! I have had a great time getting to know my host families, and my family also enjoyed hosting a physio volunteer when the Commonwealth Games were in Melbourne. This is the first event that I have been involved in where the Australian Physiotherapy Association has not been involved in assisting physio volunteers to find billet families, and so I thought that we might see if we could find someone to stay with on couch surfing.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have only heard of couch surfing through friends. However, when it comes to hosting and being a guest we have plenty of experience with an extended circle of friends. We frequently have friends and family to stay at our place in Melbourne, and have opened up our home for our Au Pairs to have their families to stay when they are visiting from overseas (we have had Au Pairs to help us with our kids since just before we had twins). We would consider ourselves easy and respectful house guests when staying elsewhere.

Interests

Sports - skiing, snowboarding, heaps of others - surfing, wakboarding, running, triathlons, bike riding; music - I haven't had time to get along to festivals lately, but I still love listening to some Groove Armada or LCD Sound System when I get a chance to go for a run. Comedy, modern art, physchology, the outdoors - camping, hiking, reading - fiction, people, events.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies - Tarantino's always a good watch, Back to the Future for a classic oldie, Terminator 2 another favorite. Music - mostly just tune into Triple J, otherwise things that are still on my playlist include cut copy, temper trap, Groove Armada, LCD Sound System, bloc party, daft punk, black eyed peas, jack johnson, the killers, the streets, mgmt, empire of the sun, cut copy, The Wombats, Sneaky Sound System
Books - don't get much of a chance to read these days (that was my past life pre kids), but my favourites are To Kill a Mocking Bird, Memoirs of a Geisha, The Chrysalids, John Marsden books...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Having kids - it really does change everything!
