To find places to stay this summer and to get to know other people.

PHILOSOPHY

I believe that God--that Truth itself--became a man and made himself known to people, not just by words, but by living and dying among them. As a result, all truth is not only objective, to be understood by the mind, but also subjective, to be experienced and known by the whole person. Our humanity is not something we escape out of, but it is also not something that we stop at in our search for truth.
I believe that God is three and at the same time, one, each member of the Godhead submitting to and preferring the other over itself. Thus, in God himself there is a model for how humans should relate to one another.
I believe in the Resurrection of the dead--not as zombies but as people more alive than they ever had been before.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm planning on staying on some couches while in Europe this summer and allowing others to stay on my couch when I'm in Prague beginning this fall. I'd love to have a coffee with you if you have time, and if not, that's fine too.

Anything by the Inklings or Inkling-related, especially Lewis, Tolkien and Charles Williams (Read Till We Have Faces if you ever get the chance). George MacDonald's fairy tales, anything with mythology--especially Greek or Norse; I Corinthians, Jonah, Job, John, Jeremiah, and of course, Isaiah, if I'm allowed favorites; Harry Potter (defy you to read it and not enjoy it); literary anthologies, epic poems, comic books (Blankets is particularly good), stuff by Wodehouse and Terry Pratchett, the short stories of Melville, Hawthorne and Flannery O'Connor...

Currently in my knapsack are: _Exclusion and Embrace: A Theological Exploration of Identity, Otherness, and Reconciliation_,by Miroslav Volf; _A Severe Mercy_ by Sheldon Vanauken; _The Descent of the Dove_, by Charles Williams; _The Hobbit_; and Terry Pratchett's _Mort_.

Several hundred-thousand fireflies in a starlit field. The ocean at night/during winter. The ocean at any time. The mountains near Sarajevo after living on flat land for months. Thunderstorms. Human beings when they are least self-conscious.

I want to learn to ask more questions when I talk to people--to really be in the frame of mind that allows me to learn and benefit from them, as well as allow them to learn about themselves. I also want to give more of myself to people, which is currently exhausting for me.
