About Me

Seeing history in person and climbing a mountain.

I've had this account forever but I haven't really bothered doing anything with CS until now (April 2009)

I was born in a small town in Ontario and moved 5 times before highschool. So by the time I was 20 I was all travelled out for awhile. But now I'm starting to want to travel more.

I'm a fairly tall dude who you'll find very social. I tend to have a sort of dry sarcastic sense of humour but I'm a real optimist at heart.

I've also got a baby on the way so I'm eager to get some solo travelling done before that becomes much more difficult!

Seek peace and perspective in all things. You can only begin to be honest with the world when you have honestly examined your own unexamined beliefs no matter how painful the process. Travel, experience and new friends snuff out inherited prejudices.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I just went to my very first CS event here in Montreal. It was lots of fun! I want to go to more events.

My wife Fuzzyila and I have hosted several people. Take a look at her profile (

I haven't surfed yet but I want to!

Reading, movies, going for a beer, movie or tea. Deep conversations about life, philosophy, what we should have for dinner, what my cats are up to.

Music, Movies, and Books

Okay, I'm a bit of a book and film nerd.

When it comes to books I'm into the real classics of fiction. Stuff nobody's heard of like "Penguin Island" and "Thais" from Anatole France. I like reading "Freethinkers" like Voltaire, Tom Paine and, dare I say Robert Ingersoll and Christopher Hitchens. I have a love-hate relationship with Richard Dawkins. I like to listen to political podcasts and NPR (thinking-man's radio).

I watch old movies and listen to music from the 20s and I have a real soft spot for Josephine Baker. I also enjoy watching movies with a friend of mine in film studies. We watch crazy gems like "Holy Mountain" and "Zardoz".

At the same time I listen to all sorts of more modern stuff like FSOL (techno/ambient), Depeche Mode and the Killers. I'm a big fan out nice lounge music, especially with a cool drink in hand.

But don't get me wrong. I've been known to pop out to the pub for a draught every so often and I'll even go out an boogie at a club like the best of them.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have a degree in Classics and another in Computer Science. This means I can help you with your Classical Greek homework and program your computer. I'm basically a computer nerd - which is hardly an oddity these days, yes, I realize.

I like to think I am pretty good at insulting people who are on TV. So if you have any cheesy old films from the 80s on VHS you'd like to make fun of, I'm your man.
