About Me

Hi there!
I'm Portia. I am upbeat, friendly, and eager to have a good time and see life the way locals see it. I am open minded, and thrilled to learn about new cultures and meet people from all over the world.

I am backpacking from Mexico to South America starting January 1, 2018. I have huge hopes and aspirations for this trip. I am excited about the opportunity to travel in different ways, one main example being CouchSurfing.

I look forward to meeting you!
Cheers xx

Music, Movies, and Books

I like all kinds of music. (Yes, I know everyone says that, but it's true)
My favorite band is Nahko and Medicine for the People which is kind of reggae/hippie music.

If I'm trying to sound cultured I'll probably say my favorite book is Catcher in The Rye, which is a great book. If I'm being honest it's probably What I Was Doing While You Were Breeding by Kristin Newman, because it combines travel and a funny, strong, independent woman.

I'm not huge on movies so I'll replace that with TV.
My go to Netflix while I veg out show is How I met Your Mother, specifically for mindless watching. I've seen the whole series probably 20 times.
But my two favorite shows are BBC's Sherlock and HBO's GIRLS.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I moved to Kenya at 22 years old and helped start a small non-profit organization that supports education for vulnerable children. I lived in Kenya off and on for 5 years and made lots of Kenyan friends and learned some Swahili.
