About Me

I am a 46 year old man from Maine, USA. I grew up in rural Maine on a hippie homestead, living close to nature. After my parents divorced, I moved every year between my mom's place in rural Maine and my dad's place in Portland, the biggest city in Maine. I have one older brother and several other siblings from step-parents.

I have worked with people with developmental disabilities for many years, and am now moving to a new job doing wilderness therapy with at-risk teens and young adults in Utah.

My political and social inclinations are progressive. I am generally open to talking with people about almost anything, and love learning new things.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am moving from Maine to Utah for a job in Wilderness Therapy. My shifts will be two weeks of working 24/7, followed by two weeks off. During my time off, I would like to travel and visit new places in western US.

Music, Movies, and Books

I read a lot of science fiction and fantasy as a child. Since then, my interests have broadened. I still like books that challenge me to expand my concept of what is possible. I read mostly fiction, plus some biography, history, philosophy, science, and personal growth books.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I grew up in rural Maine without running water or electricity, on a homestead with hippie parents. We had no TV, used kerosene lamps, drew water from a well with a bucket, and heated the water on our wood stove. We raised goats for milk, chickens for eggs and meat, and grew vegetables. For entertainment, we kids ran around in the woods, went sledding, and read novels.

More recently, I hiked 650 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail over three months.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach dance, massage therapy, organic gardening, singing, meditation, and will be learning wilderness survival skills at my new job.

I am open to learning many new things, and love talking with people about how to live fully and joyfully.
