About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Live, Love and Learn

ABOUT ME

My life started in August of 2011 when my best friend and I decided to volunteer at a medical clinic in Peru for 2 weeks. We spontaneous booked flights, arranged for accommodation and was on our way to South America. I can talk for ages about my time in Peru because in every moment, there was something to learn. That's when I decided (although ambitiously) that I was going to get into a double Med School and MBA school, get both degrees, set up a self-sufficient business and work for Doctors without Borders preferably in the next 10 years. After Peru, I was headed off to Singapore for my 4 month internship and it has been a blessing. My christening into cs happened in Singapore and I've met so many wonderful people in Singapore CS. Love them all.

Overall, I'm a chill person. One of my favourite things about CS is meeting all these wonderful people and hearing their fascinating stories. Sometimes though, I like to just relax with a good book and tea. Another thing about me is that I am a fairly athletic person. Some of my favourite sports (not saying anything about skill) are swimming, volleyball, kayaking and skiing.

For me travel has never necessarily only been about seeing the sites (I hate it when people obsessively take photos of things without understanding or reason). It has always been about the people and the culture. The things that fascinate me the most are those little things like how Peruvian guys are totally comfortable with salsa-ing together or the singlish "walao-eh" or the fashion of London or the to-die-for prosciutto in Rome. My hope for the future is that I continue to have the opportunity to travel and see the world.

If you want to know more about me, I have two travel blogs, one for Peru and one for Singapore that you can check out. jamegackie.wordpress.com and nihaosingapore.wordpress.com.

PHILOSOPHY

Sing like no one's listening, love like you've never been hurt, dance like nobody's watching, and live like its heaven on earth.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I would love to host people if they ever end up visiting Waterloo, Ontario where I am currently doing my degree. Given money and time, it would make me so happy to surf anywhere else in the world.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Truth be told, I haven't surfed or hosted yet but I have met some of the most amazing people in the world through CS and some of my fondest memories are with these people.
