About Me

Salut! Je m'appelle Rafael. Calm, collected, mexican.

Engineering graduate, albeit with many interests outside the sciences. I try to study hard! Keep up with my responsabilities! I have been working hard, playing hard! Finishing sentences with exclamation marks! I'm a sucker for good design and try to keep up in what happens in the local scene.

I read, my main authors are Borges, Sagan, Calvino, Orwell, Vonnegut and Crichton. The full books list is at Goodreads. I'm currently starting a Modernist Architecture and Design cycle, look me up on Goodreads for more info.

I watch a lot of short films now. I know it's cliche, but the recent Nolan works, whole lot of Wes Anderson, JJ Abrams, Classic Star Wars, Darren Aronofsky, Stephen Spielberg, Ridely Scott, Spike Jonze, Martin Scorcese, David Fincher, Al fondos Cuarón and Edgar Wright films. I am ambivalent on P.T. Anderson. I don't have a favorite film, it's a very hard choice!

AMC shows like Breaking Bad and Mad Men, vintage Simpsons (pre 9th season), Community, Portlandia, IT Crowd, Lost, Fringe and X-Files. Animated shows like Venture Bros, Mission Hill, Superjail!, Futurama, early Adventure Time and Clone High. Recently had access to BBC shows like Doctor Who, Luther, Call the Midwife and Sherlock. They're a blast!

Synthpop, dreamwave and chill-out electronica are my mainstays. Indie pop/folk is important for me too! A fan of the 60's, 80's, 90's music scene. Had a thing for jazz, still keep my collection on a hard drive.
I'm getting into "Welcome to Night Vale", Cecil has a smooth voice. I listen to Radiolab and NPR (KPBS) when I'm driving.
If I had to name 6 bands at the top of my head it would be Arcade Fire, St. Vincent, Sufjan Stevens, The Shins, Zoé and Radiohead
Music is found at my last.fm and Spotify accounts. Let's exchange playlists!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Knowing I was in Vatican City when the Pope announced his abdication.

Knowing I had traveled so far from home and didn't break a sweat, I was at peace.

Knowing I can communicate beyond my common language and interact with people beyond my normal scope.

Knowing in general! :)
