About Me

I am a retired engineer and entrepreneur, having lived a life of diverse experiences -- sometimes adventures. I have lived most of my years in the U.S. western states. Now, I'm living in the building that I built in La Veta, Colorado, which was also once home of a brewpub (but no more, sorry). My facilities are rather limited because the couchsurfer's area is in rooms associated with the ex-restaurant area. The facilities are adequate for a flexible person, or possibly two *very* friendly people. La Veta is a colorful little town with mountains and hiking nearby.

We will enjoy getting to know each other if you are politically progressive, love to travel, and endeaver to be aware about what is happening in society and the world. Hiking is available in the nearby mountains.

I am a native English speaker, can speak "travel" German, and am attempting to learn Spanish. I have done diverse volunteer travel gigs of 4-6 weeks in the Philippines, Zimbabwe, Ghana, and Guatemala. These have involved medical work, solar electric, and teaching.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I like to travel, and to do my part to pay it forward and back. I enjoy meeting people, especially non-traditional people who have lived their life with passion.

I am also particularly interested in VOLUNTEERING. I have volunteered in the Philippines as an operating room nurse, in Zimbabwe as a school teacher (English composition and science), in Ghana as a solar electric designer and implementer, and Guatemala doing a variety of volunteer tasks, including outfighting a facility for disabled artists. Solar electric is an area where feel I can make important contributions because I am an electrical engineer and have experience with small out-back solar electric systems.

Interests

Travel, photography, music (bass player), creating things (buildings, electronics, software), book authoring, intellectual progressive discussions, airplane piloting, hiking, etc. I did experimental cinematography and invented a digital sound-sync system in the younger days. Renewable energy (particularly small solar electric systems) is an important area of interest for me. I love creating things.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like to play bass with 50-70s goldies, including Motown. I read more non-fiction than fiction, for example biographies and history. Books about the brain are a major interest.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I created a fly-in residential airport in Idaho.

Teach, Learn, Share

Yes, teach, learn, and share -- and create! As mentioned, I have done this in a number of countries outside the U.S.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Here in the U.S: a roof and bed -- not pretty, but effective. Cooking area that is available during the day. I travel a bit, mostly on weekends, so regretfully, the facilities are not always available for couchsurfers.

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, England, France, Germany, Ghana, Greece, Guatemala, Japan, Mexico, Peru, Philippines, Poland, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, Viet Nam, Zambia, Zimbabwe
