My name is Richard and I really do enjoy traveling, learning, cooking and connecting with new and interesting people; so I feel right at home in this community!
I like meat, but I don't eat it very often. I enjoy eating out, but I love to cook (healthy/organic). I am not vein or materialistic but I respect a sense of style. I love animals but I would go hunting as long as I cleaned and ate the animal myself. I believe in: peace and love, reasoning and empathy, but I will knock someone on their ass if they pose a physical threat. I don't care about name brands, only quality. I love the nature, and being active outdoors is important to me. I've recently started bouldering and I would like to go climbing. If there is a ball around I'm the type want to throw/kick it around. I am naturally engaging and enjoy intellectual conversations about philosophy (Alan Watts, Krishnamurti), science (Carl Sagan, Einstein, Issac Newton), literature (Tom Robbins, Frank Kafka, Hemingway) and art (Jackson Pollock, Henry Cartier-Bresson) to name a few. I believe connecting people using common interest exchanges between travelers and local people will change the world. So, I started an NGO called Project Brigid.
I never try to plan out my future, I just go in the direction where my happiness lies. I'm almost always with my friend Alobar; I found at a shelter in Spain (2009). He's a bit older now, but he's usually down for a solid walk; pretty laid back and independent.
I love: trying new things, that perfect song at the perfect time, driving on the highway in the middle of the summer with the windows down and the hot summer air running through my hands, the feeling I get after working hard on/for something, finding out the girl I like is a great kisser, the few hours of sleep I get, the feeling from switching from hot water to ice cold in the shower, my skin crawling on the back of my neck during a great movie and keeping an open heart with a quite mind.
Hate: I'd rather not think or talk about what I hate, so I will make it quick and off the top of my head.. being cold, fake people, losing my brother at such a young age, thinking about the past, negative people.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I am on Couchsurfing because I love to meet new and interesting people. I have hosted, surfed and participated in grouped events. I often tell people about couchsurfing and how someone came up with the idea of organizing all the coolest people around the world on one website. I have couchsurfed in just 4 countries, but I have been so lucky to have met so many amazing people.
I really love: meeting new people, back packing, traveling, swimming, gardening, cooking, climbing, photography, music, building things with my hands, working out, my dog, volunteering, a good party, I love to dance.

Music, Movies, and Books
I love all music... from Skrillex to The Beatles and everything in-between. If it has good lyrics and/or a nice rhythm I will listen to it... but even better to dance!
Love movies.. making, watching, independent and studio. Not even going there...
Mostly fiction and philosophy, Tom Robbins has a great book called Jitterbug perfume (fiction), teaching of Krishnamurti (non-fiction), Tom Clancy novels like Rainbow 6 and Teeth of the Tiger (Fiction). Just finished One Shot by Lee Child...
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I was on the Andaman and Nicobar Islands off the east of India. You know those TukTuks or Rickshas (three wheeled taxi, driver in the front and normally room for three at the most four in the back)?
yeah, so this island had about 600 people in total and about 15 tourists. There was only one rickshaw available at this time of night where we were, and we were taking it into the jungle.... with 11 people! If you have ever been in one of these things, I know your saying "impossible. Well, it's not. (Hmmm... well, technically it is impossible, because it broke down after about 3 kil) and we were stranded in the jungle!! Luckily it was only a short walk to the taxi guys house where he offered us to sleep that night... we arrived to his home, I meet his father... who has huge bite marks on his chest from when he was attacked by a crocodile while bathing in the river. Ten minutes later, I am standing at the same river getting ready to clean myself.
standing in front of that water, 2am pitch black, looking into the black motionless jungle river, in the middle of nowhere. Took a couple deep breaths, and jumped in.
You know how you feel after a long sweaty day of doing working your ass off and you take a shower or bath... that feeling you get? Imagine how I felt after that day, and experience. It was... a unique experience and feeling.

Learn: I want to learn about cultures and people from all walks of life. As I travel I look to share my experiences with new people I meet so that they might have a better vision of the world we share.
