About Me

CURRENT MISSION

On my way to explore the Blue Ridge on my motorcycle. Looking for local coffee roasters!

ABOUT ME

I'm a retired Coast Guard Helicopter Rescue Swimmer/Aviation Survivalman. Husband, father of 5 great kids. Two are grown. One son in the Air Force. I live in a 100 year old house that keeps me busy. I raise chickens for the eggs and grow a vegetable garden each year with my daughter.
My wife tolerates my adventures. Ran my first marathon at 53, hope to run my second marathon this September. Also an ADV Rider. (ad rider.com)

PHILOSOPHY

I don't want to spend the rest of my life keeping people at arms length. The potential for learning about and then helping other people is huge. This has the benefit of allowing other people to show me new things, share their experiences, helping me learn. It's a cycle.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Right now I'm in need of a place to crash on my over to the Blue Ridge.
I'm hoping to fix up a big room over my garage to offer up to travelers.

Music, Movies, and Books

Because of my kids I listen to all kinds of music. Dubstep, Christian Rock and Rap. I prefer Zep, Rush, anything Clapton, Jeff Beck. Recently enjoying John Mayers live albums. Dude can play a guitar.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Just one? Sorry, too many to pick. Been to Antarctica. Had a parachute malfunction on my first parachute jump. Jumped out of helicopters into the ocean to rescue people for a living. I helped with each of my children's births.
Lived in Alaska. Walked right by a momma brown near and her cubs without being eaten. Guided sea kayaking in Alaska. Sober 24 years.

Teach, Learn, Share

Who knows? I don't want to set any limitations on this!
