About Me

❀❀❀❀Hi! I'm a former philosophy professor turned web developer, finally realizing my dream of traveling through Latin America.

I traveled (and later lived) in Europe in my 20's and 30's, but I was born and raised in Santo Domingo (Republica Dominicana), and have always wanted to know more about my Latin American sisters and brothers.

I like to go slow and tend to spend months in one place before moving to the next place. I lived six months in Mexico. I've now been in Costa Rica for almost three months, but am leaving for Nicaragua in a couple days.

➥ Nicaragua here I come! I have a place lined up in Nicaragua so when I get there I'll upload photos and offer to host. I'll be in the center of town Granada, woot woot!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've been a couchsurfer for many years but lost access to my profile ☹, so am starting over. I love Couchsurfing and have both hosted and been a guest in the U.S. and Mexico. I love the community, meeting people at Meetups, and staying with locals wherever I travel.

Music, Movies, and Books

It's still the 1980's in ritaland (i.e., my world). I'm still a big fan of bands like Eurythmics, the Pretenders, angry grrrl rock, and Morrissey.

I read a lot in my youth but now tend to watch videos online and listen to podcasts more. Some of my favorite podcasts: MyFavoriteMurder, Pat Flynn, and political shows like DemocracyNow and Rachel Maddow.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I taught philosophy for ten years, ran my own photography business, and became a self-taught web developer, but I still think the best thing I ever did was pack my bags and when I was 19. My first backpacking trip was to the UK, where I ended up living in Scotland for 6 months. That first leap is still one of the best things I ever did, and it prepared me for a lifetime of travel and continued curiosity about the world.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you web development stuff (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, etc) and hold my own in philosophical discussions. ッ I would love to learn whatever you'd like to teach me!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I love eating and cooking vegeterian foods, and would love to make you a delish meal, then we can stay up all night telling stories and considering the big questions of life.
