One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I spent a weekend in October 2009 in Normandy, including a night in a hotel on Gold Beach. In both of my languages I find that I am unable to express the sense of history that weighed down upon me once I set foot on the sand. I felt the weight of the American, French, English, and German soldiers who had fought and perished on the very spot I crossed with each step.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am happy to communicate in either of my languages with whomever I stay. I would also like to learn about the language of my host, wherever that may be. I can wax poetic about American culture (between the Midwest and the South) and French (Parisian) culture. I can discuss politics, current events, science, language, bureaucracy, and almost any subject (although most would be better in English than in French). I have spent significant time in: Los Angeles, California; Indianapolis, Indiana; Detroit, Michigan; Chicago, Illinois; New Orleans, Lousiana; Charlottesville, Virginia; and St. Louis, Missouri. In addition, I have visited a good portion of the rest of the United States (although there is always more that I would like to see). I am happy to discuss any of my experiences.

I want to learn characteristics of the language and culture in which I stay. If my host is willing, I'd like advice on the place in which I am staying. I would love to talk with my host about whatever subject.
