About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Walk to Jerusalem.

ABOUT ME

My name's Rob, and I'm a traveller. I recently finished the Camino de Santiago, and am currently holed up on a farm somewhere in rural England, writing, and plotting my next move.

It is my intention to write on the run, my whole life, walking from town to town with a rucksack and a laptop.

PHILOSOPHY

I think the world has become too small, the big old ancient world that swallows us up, we've shrunk it with our trappings and politics, and we need to free ourselves from the chain gang of modern life. I want to live a simple life, carry my possessions like a pirate's chest on my back, and just walk, see everything, see everybody, because what else is there to see but everything? We all need to be more humble and desirous.

Music, Movies, and Books

Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Rushdie, Kerouac, Steinbeck, Burroughs, Ginsberg.

Springsteen, Dylan, Floyd, Doors, Winehouse, Mumford & Sons, Laura Marling, Nirvana.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

El Camino de Santiago... 500-miles from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port in France, to Santiago de Compostela, across the Pyrenees, la Meseta, and into Galicia, onto Fisterra, the end of the Roman world. Every night, I either slept in a simple hostel, eating simple food, and washing my clothes outside in a sink, or slept in a tent in the beautiful outdoors, and hiked across the country. It was the most humbling experience of my life, and I strongly recommend it to anybody and everybody.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm learning Spanish at the moment, and would like to learn Italian, Arabic, Hebrew, Chinese, and every other language there is.

I can play guitar, which I guess I could help with, and know enough about ancient history, politics, and music to discuss them with anybody who wants to know. I also know a little about outdoor survival, compasses, map reading, fire building, shelter building and the like, which I'm happy to share, as well as learn a great deal more of, because it's useful stuff!
