About Me

Hi Everyone,

I'm Rob, a PADI dive instructor living in Northern Virginia, USA. Prior to that, I served as a middle school physics teacher in Guinea with the Peace Corps. Loved it!

I've always had this insatiable need to see new places and experience new things. The world is such a dynamic, incredible place that it seemed unthinkable to stay in one spot. I hope to see as much of the world as I can and meet some fantastic new people in the process.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm on Couchsurfing as a means of getting out into the world and having new experiences. I think that one of the best parts of travel is the opportunity to immerse yourself in a new culture. Hotels often make that difficult because they separate you from the home lives of the people who occupy that country. Yet where is real culture more present than in a person's home? I want to use Couchsurfing as a tool to see new places and, hopefully, experience new cultures in a way that might otherwise be closed to me.

Music, Movies, and Books

Oh this is far too long of a list to include here. I love movies and I am a voracious reader!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I taught middle school physics in a rural community called Koumbia in Guinea in West Africa. The village did not have electricity or running water and so I lived without either for over a year.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am happy to help hosts learn/practice English. I also would love to learn just about anything from my hosts, be that their own language or their history or even just a family recipe.

Also, I'm a biologist by degree. So I know a fair amount about the natural world that extends beyond that places that I have visited, if anyone is interested.

What I Can Share with Hosts

There are always stories to be shared by travelers and I definitely have my fair share of those.

Plus, I make a pretty great dive/hiking buddy.

Countries I’ve Visited

Curaçao, Dominica, Fiji, Guinea, Haiti, Italy, Jamaica, Maldives, Senegal, Switzerland, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom

Countries I’ve Lived In
