About Me

I am an attorney with my own law practice in Gurnee, IL. It's a small town about 60 miles north of Chicago and about 60 miles south of Milwaukee, right on the border of Illinois and Wisconsin.

I have a family with my wife, Maria, and my three children -- James (9), Jack (7) and Emily (5). I grew up around here, but after law school, I moved to NYC and lived there for 9 years and that is where I got married and had my first two children. I am home now, though, and I LOVE IT.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm on Couchsurfing to meet Spanish speakers in my area. I would love to learn Spanish and am looking for speakers to meet and practice with! I heard about this site through a book, "Fluent in 3 Months," where the author recommends the site and says that the best way to learn a language is to seek out native speakers.

My main interests are a little prosaic -- work and family. But I also play the guitar and piano. I like to learn new things and am working on learning Spanish and a little bit of computer programming in Python.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm not afraid to say it: I like Taylor Swift. And from the response to her new album, I suppose I'm not alone. That said, I also like Mozart, who is at the other end of the cultural spectrum. All I can say is that I appreciate a variety of music -- from country to rock to R&B to classical.

My favorite movie of all time is a little known movie called "Unstrung Heroes." It was excellent and had just the right blend of comedy and tragedy.

As for books, I love to read. But I find that nowadays, I read less and less fiction and more and more for work and self-education.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The most amazing thing I have done? I feel so at home in my small town that I think it's amazing that I once lived in downtown Manhattan, near Wall Street and the Stock Exchange, renting a big apartment with two friends from law school. That life seems so far away now. It seems hard to believe it was real.

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Czech Republic, France, Italy
