About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To become a great storyteller.
ABOUT ME
Find me on facebook: Daiquiri Rene Jones. Or Okc: http://www.okcupid.com/oldowan
I'm told I'm charismatic (but only when I'm excited), a good storyteller, and kind/sarcastic (it fluctuates). I was born and raised in New Orleans and was displaced to Florida after Katrina. I studied Gender Studies, Anthropology, and Religious studies while at the University. I'm pretty easy going and am playful with ideas.
PHILOSOPHY
This is a funny question. In high school, I read a lot on Zen Buddhism. I think that influenced my values a lot. Since then, I've enjoyed casually reading up on mysticism, post-structural philosophy, and feminist theory. I especially enjoy the theories of Baudrillard and Mcluhan, but in the end, it's a creative exercise for vitality, the unspoken things, and care.
Interests
Activism and theory interest me a great deal. Guitar playing, storytelling, creative writing, Tarot, and mysticism.
OR
Stolen from my okc profile: protesting; professing; watching films; practicing divination/inclinations; being ambivalent about reality and fiction; conversing; collecting constellations of streetlights; thinking about creating my own tarot deck while not creating my own tarot deck; playing with words; working with wordplay; weeding; drinking ginger ale; discussing ufology, theology, and transcendental in-the-body experiences; dancing to loud music in parking lots (guerrilla style); flirting with ideas; flirting WITH ideas; seeing real life as science fiction; occasionally partaking in: hallucinogens, improvisation, incantation, incandescent infiltration of the unknown with one's own rhythm.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Occupy protests: I've been part of the Occupy movement in Tampa pretty much since its inception, off and on. In the beginning I slept on the sidewalks for months. It was exciting times. I ended up being arrested for protesting more than a couple times. I tried creating a library and a garden without much success due to constant interruptions from police officers. I remember hundreds of protesters and I also remember some of the kindest and most wonderful people I've met.
5 day hunger fast: Very different kind of activism, much more organized and planned. I signed up to do a hunger "fast" with the Coalition of Immokolee Workers, who are a collective of farm laborers in the tomato industry, consisting mostly of migrant farm workers, who have been mistreated, abused, and exploited in Florida. This has a long history, but that history has started to end when they put pressure on large corporations to put pressure on growers to treat farm workers with human rights. ANYWAY, we fasted for 5 or so days alongside farmworkers outside of Publix and it was an amazing show of spirit.
Three: Katrina-related experience and volunteering afterwards with Common Ground Relief. Seeing a city I knew changed, being changed, and meeting people who've come down from all over to help rebuild it meant a lot. Not something I think about much these days. Also climbed to the very top of a bridge and saw an amazing, though slightly foggy, view of the city at night.
Teach, Learn, Share
Ummmmmmmmmmm... I can give some minor tips on storytelling, very basic guitar knowledge, some philosophy discussions... not an expert in any area but decent at writing.
