About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To see the world for myself.

ABOUT ME

My friends would say I'm shy, but after being a solo traveller for 6 months, I've become much more outgoing. Whilst I still love exploring different towns, cities and landscapes for their own sakes, I've found that meeting locals and other travellers has totally enhanced my experience of a place.

I'm very organised when it comes to planning ahead, but during the day to day I'm pretty laid back.

I hope my friends would say I'm reliable and trustworthy, as well as courteous and respectful towards other people.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

After travelling the world for six months at the end of 2012, I am now back home. I am about to start a new job in order to either move out or go travelling again. Therefore at the moment I am unfortunately unable to host surfers but instead attend meetings. In the future, however, I would love to accommodate travellers.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

In my six months of travel, I surfed my way around America's New England through the fall and enjoyed being hosted by some really wonderful people.

Interests

Although I am not travelling at present, I still have the mentality of a traveller. Even in my home town, I spend my free time exploring new places: I love to just wander around and go in which ever direction takes my fancy.
I'm interested in all things food-related. When I go to a unfamiliar country or region, I try to scout out the speciality and find the best place which serves it at its most authentic.

I also enjoy getting to know and hanging out with fellow travellers and new friends, or reading and writing when alone.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love going to the cinema! My favourite directors range from Woody Allen to Tim Burton.
Listening to music when travelling on a train or on a bus whilst looking out of the window is the best way to enjoy the journey. I love indie music, such as bands like the Beatles, Arctic Monkeys, Arcade Fire, Bright Eyes, The Smiths, Belle and Sebastian, The Strokes.
After finishing my English degree I'm finally able to read the books I want to read. Charles Dickens is my favourite author and I'm currently trying to read his whole collection.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

When I was in the rice paddies in China, it was the evening of the Dragon Boat Festival. We walked along the top of the fields, whose edges were lined with tea lights, until we saw the most amazing view down below. In the village at the bottom, a Chinese dragon danced around a blazing bonfire whilst fireworks were being set off into the sky. It was magical.

In Japan, I was in Kyoto during the Lantern Festival. That night I wandered around all the festivities. There were lighted paper lanterns drifting down the river, couples floating in boats, and other strollers taking in the view. The walkway through a park, leading up to the main temple, was completely crowded with people. The sides of the path was enclosed with lit lanterns reaching at least four metres high. In front stood countless food stalls selling everything from deep-fried octopus, to noodles, to bubble tea, to donuts. Traditional Japanese dancers clad in kimonos pranced around a monument in the middle of the path. The smells, the sounds, and the sights were fascinating.

After walking for about four hours, I reached the top of Yosemite point and looked out over Yosemite valley. It was spectacular seeing the forests, half dome and El Capitan all around me. My sense of physical accomplishment has never been greater.
