Chi sono

I'm really tall, really white and love meeting people from other cultures. I'm not sure why that is, but after traveling for the last month and a half I know it's true -- there's just something about hanging out with someone in another part of the world that opens up my mind and gets me excited about life. I can read and watch things on the internet, but until I meet a real local who can tell me and show me what their world is like I won't fully understand.

I love to run and play basketball and try to do both in every place I visit. Whether it's on top of a mountain village in the Philippines or in the center of Hong Kong, there's just nothing like playing some hoops or running around a new place and getting lost in all that it offers. I also love to hike and go on adventures until my body is completely exhausted -- it makes me feel like I've conquered something and it also prepares me to eat a lot of the local food wherever I'm at has to offer. :)

Something else that's worth knowing about me is that I'm much more interested in the people I meet while traveling than the things I see. The people are what I will remember and the sights will be part of the story that's created through them.

Perché sono iscritto su Couchsurfing

I would much rather stay with someone in their own place, in their own neighborhood than in a hotel or even a hostel. Yes, it saves me money, but the experience that both of us will have will be worth much more than saving just a couple of bucks here and there. I want to meet locals and through those relationships I will be able to truly see what their world has to offer and they'll be able to see their world through my eyes, which is always fun, too.

Interessi

I think I already answered this, but I guess you can't know too much about me, so here goes.

I love people and learning about what their world is like and how it's same/different from mine.

I love hummus and think that it's the best thing in the entire world. I have also learned that there's no Chinese dish I don't like -- I have literally loved everything I've eaten in this country.

I run almost every day and think it's one of the best ways to see the new places I'm visiting. Fast enough to give me a good workout and slow enough to be able to take in the sights and sounds.

If there's a basketball game happening, count me in. I'm always up for some hoops.

I like to make videos from my adventures, here are a few I've made so far: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCrtCq6bD6-mkTx_VEDdhJAQ.

Musica, film e libri

I like all kinds of music depending on my current mood, but I love Foster The People, Grouplove, Coldplay, songs that make me dance and lots of other music that my friends share with me through their music playlists. I love music, but I'm not great at finding it, but luckily I have super-trendy friends.

I don't read a lot of books, but some of the best ones I've read/listened to (I like to listen to audio books while I run) are Ultra Marathon Man (about an incredible runner who eventually ran 50 marathons in 50 states in 50 days), Pacific Rims (all about the Philippines and their crazy love for basketball), Masters of Doom (about early video game designers who created the first-person shooter market), Vagabonding (all about traveling the world, which is very relevant now).

I like all kinds of movies -- I grew up watching movies with my dad and we pretty much saw everything. But if I had to choose, a couple of my favorites would be Shawshank Redemption and Wayne's World -- two very different movies.

Una cosa incredibile che ho fatto

I was on Wheel Of Fortune, which is a very popular game show in the United States, and lost over $10,000 USD in 30 seconds. Not my proudest moment, but still amazing.

**I've also been a TV reporter, danced in front of 5k people in the Congo, climbed the rice terraces in the Philippines, became best friends with a homeless man for a year, stole and drove a dragon boat in China and published the book "MySpace For Dummies".

I'm always looking to add to the list.

Oh, I just remembered -- I recently danced until the sun came up at an electronic dance music festival in Shanghai with a bunch of people I didn't know. It was definitely amazing.

Insegna, impara, condividi

I want to learn about the places I visit and the people I'm fortunate enough to spend time with. I can teach you how to shuffle cards, play basketball, create a workout for yourself, build a website, train a Pug to roll over, run a marathon and many other things.

Cosa posso offrire ai padroni di casa

I can share my perspective on this word and the stories I've created. I can also share my willingness to go on any adventure you want. As long as it's something you've wanted to do, I'm up for it. I'm not very experienced with long-term camping and have no gear for it (I only have one backpack to my name), but other than that I'm up for anything.
