About Me

Hey!
I love travelling especially for two reasons: meet new people, have new experiences. Regardless of them being good, or bad, comfy, or difficult; every experience is valuable. The journey is the whole reason for travel.

In this way, I'm often reluctant and cannot fathom pre-planning travel! Works to my detriment, but its really something of my nature I encounter every time I plan travelling :)

I'd rather keep it free and easy, meet the locals, and live an authentic experience in a new country. Being able to interact with the environment as authentically as possible, straying from the tourist paved path is my goal!

Not seeing all the temples/churches/museums/librarians in exchange for a wild adventure I'd never get at home is my trade-off.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

As well as the savings, couchsurfing has an experience that any hostel or hotel can never provide - meeting willing locals.
I myself LOVE tourists and innately feel hospitable towards new comers - I want them to have a good time! And I look forward to meeting like minded people on my encounters.

Interests

I LOVE - film. Music. Restauranting. Back-packing. Trekking and camping. Science. Art. History. I like to dance. I love new sensations and new environments.

I have garnered an appreciation for understanding a countrys history and the relevance of certain landmarks today. Rather than blinding following the tourist trail, I aim for understanding and human connection through history and the land.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music - Disco! Punk! Dance music! I like most things... but generally music with good beats and badass attitude ;)

Soo many movies: I guess I love Christopher Nolan since Interstellar recently! I love scifi, art and science documentaries, indie romances.. Richard Linklater, Larry Park was an old favourite, David Cronenberg... hmmm I like a lot.

Books: Still going with sci fi - I especially like books that explore personal experiences that tie to a bigger meaning. I read the Womens Room on recommendation of a friend and I am still withdrawing from the pleasure of reading that book!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Once I was caught in a bind when I arrived at a border town between France and Spain on my way to Barcelona.
The rural train had just arrived around 1am, and the next train to Barcelona was at 7am. I needed somewhere to stay for 6 hours, but didn't want to fork out 40 euro.
Haggled with the old lady at the hostel (40euro) to bring it down to 20 euro for me to sleep on the couch and she wasn't having any of it!
After walking the streets with a big rucksack and a dodgy 40 year old guy wanting to share a dorm room with me, I lost him and buzzed a few buttons on an apartment block.
Someone miraculously let me in, to which I entered the stairway and made my bed for the next few hours! I was left undisturbed, and I believe no one even knew I was there.
SURVIVAL!
Oh, I also slept in the sacre coeur once :)

Teach, Learn, Share

Sydney - I have a few favourite restaurants - I tend to eat lots of Japanese!

Sushi Yachiyo is one of my favourites.

Bar wise - anything in Darlinghurst or Surry Hills - plenty of little pop-ups and small bars around there, as well as in Newtown (where I live).
