About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To experience as much lowbrow art, music, beer, coffee and general underground awesomeness as we can in a whirlwind month-long trip to the USA... And then to reciprocate for anyone interested in coming and doing the same in New Zealand

ABOUT ME

We're a couple from New Zealand who will be couchsurfing together and/or hosting people in our shared flat.

Sam (the boy with the snazzy glasses in the profile pic) is 27 and Andy (the girl with the fringe) is 31. We're easygoing artists who are visiting the US for a month soon and would love to meet fellow beer drinkers and music lovers.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We're looking to do some couchsurfing on our second trip round the States in July/August, and once we get back, will be available to host others when we move into a new flat

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Completely inexperienced, and waiting for you to be our first... We have used Airbnb before though, and loved the experiences we had in NYC, Chicago and Montreal

Interests

Painting, screenprinting, punk rock, beer, reading, vintage clothing, cats, tattoos, gambling, coffee...

Music, Movies, and Books

Andy:

All the books! I worked as a librarian for seven years and am something of a book nerd... A particularly fine moment was re-reading my favourite book 'The Good Fairies of New York' by Martin Millar one night on a fire escape during my first trip to NYC and getting to feel all super-authentic about it...

I'm more of a novice when it comes to movies (as my flatmate who has seen everything ever will attest to). If I have to pick five (I guess I don't but hey, I never get anything done unless there's some kind of self-imposed limit to it), I'll go with Dazed and Confused, Labyrinth, Natural Born Killers, Edward Scissorhands and Lord of the Rings. Nope, I'm not highbrow at all about films.

Ah music... I'll attempt to make it manageable by only mentioning bands we have tickets to see on this trip: Rancid/Transplants, Mudhoney, Wire, The Specials, Peter Murphy (Bauhaus), Descendents/Sublime with Rome. And hopefully a bunch of obscure local bands we haven't heard of yet who we'll discover along the way.

And for good measure, some amazing artists who - fingers crossed - I'd like to see showing some work while we're in the US: John John Jesse, Natalia Fabia, Audrey Kawasaki, John Baizley, Camille Rose Garcia, Mark Ryden, Tara McPherson and Alex Gross.

Sam:

Will possibly fill this out when time permits or when Andy hassles him into doing so...
