About Me

My name is Samantha but I go by Sam. I've lived up and down the East Coast, USA my whole life and I spent part of the summer in the orphanage in Cornelia Ida, Guyana. I'm currently enrolled in my second semester at College of Charleston in South Carolina. I am double majoring in International Studies with a focus in Latin and Caribbean Studies and Spanish.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm couch surfing for several reasons, one being I don't want to wake up one day and realize I've been no where and done nothing. Another reason I want to couch surf is that I need a change and to have some new experiences- I feel that if I was able to travel and work and learn in a new place it would help me ground myself and learn to appreciate life more. Id also like to learn and love a new place so I can eventually go back, maybe live there for a while and eventually teach others of the area or go back and volunteer. What I am mainly looking for is a room I can stay at and to be able to help around the house or with whatever needs help with, hopefully pick up another job and learn about the surrounding area and have some amazing experiences.

Interests

My interests include dancing, mostly to Latin dances but just whatever keeps me moving. I have a love for Latin and south american countries in general. I have done Capoeira and Samba for almost 10 years and feel very passionate about both. I've done a lot of missions trips and Habitat for Humanity projects. I genuinely enjoy working, manual or other it helps me feel useful especially if it goes towards someone else. I also really enjoy singing.

Music, Movies, and Books

My favorite music is whatever I listen to and can connect to, or that makes me want to dance. I have an eclectic taste in music. I'm a fan of any kind of movie- cheesy or serious and I love fiction books mainly.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The one and most amazing thing I've ever done hands down is spend some of my summer in Guyana. I stayed at an orphanage in Cornelia Ida and i spent it with 34 amazing kids. My team and I woke up every morning, helped the kids with their chores, taught there lesson of the day, cooked, and just spent time getting to know them. Before that I never thought I could care for a person more than myself. Those kids taught me to love and to respect other people and to feel blessed. They also made me realize I don't need things like my phone or paved roads to feel happy. I've never been as happy as I was when I was there and it really put my life into perspective. Not only did I learn about myself but i learned all about the country and its culture. The country is really unique with many African, Indian, and Caribbean influences giving the country a beautiful twist of normal south american countries.

Teach, Learn, Share

Whatever I have to offer, I will give- whether it is random facts about my home town to things that have effected my life. Im pretty decent and teaching certain things to and I am willing too.
