About Me

I'm an easy-going person who likes to volunteer, read, write, sketch, and study languages. I'm getting certified as a Teach English as a Foreign Language instructor this year, and will be using that to travel abroad.

I tend to be a quiet person but I'd like to get some exposure to night life as well.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love studying languages and I plan on spending a few months in Europe before moving to China for a TEFL position (at which point, I will offer a couch.)

I'm hoping to gain exposure to languages more and gain conversational competency in the languages I'm studying other than Spanish (and am more than willing to tutor in English.)

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm not picky about music and like most anything.

Movies: I like horror movies, especially of the ghost variety (e.g. The Ring) but I also like family movies, action movies, science fiction.

Shows:

I like a lot of the Netflix shows: Subsurra, Casa de Papel, La Niña, Juana Inés, Black Mirror.

Books:

As a kid, I was a huge fan of Animorphs and love it when I meet fellow fans. I also loved (and still love) Harry Potter.

As an adult I read a lot of Jodi Picoult, Stephen King, Neil Gaiman, Octavia Butler, Nnedi Okafor, and I also like reading Young Adult fiction in other languages (e.g. Los Juegos del Hambre). I think my favorite book last year was "Born a Crime" by Trevor Noah.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I made a Tumblr post that to date has over 300k reblogs. I thought I was going to die.

I also wrote a novel but as I've made no effort to redraft and publish it that doesn't strike me as so amazing yet.

Teach, Learn, Share

As mentioned, more than happy to help anyone who wants English tutoring.

I would love to gain language practice.

And I'm willing to share conversation.

I doubt you would want to share my cooking incompetence, but I can try to not burn some Macaroni & Cheese for you if you'd like.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I've taken a TESOL and TEFL course, so I can help give some English tutoring while with you. I'm more than happy to babysit a bit if someone needs few hours out (I have done CPR/First Aid/AED/Lifeguard training and have worked several years in schools and day camp settings.)

I also am a fan of photography, so if anyone wants digital family photos I could try to get some photos of everyone as well. I used to do photography for the children's daycamp I worked at; I don't have many photos I've taken of people anymore but I could put a portfolio together if asked.
