Chi sono

CURRENT MISSION

Grow a droopy moustache

ABOUT ME

I grew up in a quite neighborhood in Seattle where I spent my early childhood training to become a famous painter (I was *really* good at drawing spaceships). I then turned to skateboarding in my teens to try to conpensate for the stigma of being on the track team (running around in circles with really small shorts doesn't exactly garner popularity). I then dropped both and picked up classical guitar and began training to become a famous musician, though unfortunately unlike my stint as a painter I wasn't too good - couldn't get past Sor's etude #15 - so I gave that up and switched to studying English, which I'm still doing. Through all my various attempts to become a famous X, I was always reading, so I guess I've come full circle, even if it is a the price of fame and fortune.

PHILOSOPHY

'Ich bin Dy-NO-mite!' - Nietzsche

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've stayed with friendly people in Europe on a trip in December and I've enjoyed hosting people in Edinburgh. I've just moved back to my home town of Seattle and am still getting settled - though hopefully soon I or my mom, who as it happens is a obsessive cs hostess, will start hosting people again sometime soon.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Stayed with people in Berlin, Vienna, Zurich, and Brussels. It really made travelling enjoyable to actually meet people from different places rather than just being another tourist. Have hosted a few people in my former home Edinburgh that were great to meet.

Interessi

I've always been pretty bookish, so I spend a fair amount of time reading (dry) books - usually literature or philosophy. I like teaching myself things, even though I typically more or less fail - I've been teaching myself to cook and bake (my carrot cake is delicious - if I do say so), and I've been trying to learn how to use water colors, though it seems I've lost my youthful genius (or I was just a really arrogant 8 year old). I'm also trying to learn German, but so far my German teacher usually laughs whenever I say something - maybe I'm just unkowingly really witty even though I can't understand what I'm saying... maybe not. Since I've been home I've picked my classic guitar back up and am doing my best to work through the Sor studies (it takes about a year, so maybe I should just do something like 'Mary had a little lamb'). I've also started learning how to make clothes with my expert mom since I've been home in Seattle. So basically I have a ridiculous amount of free time on my hands...

Musica, film e libri

I like old black and white movies, but my all time favorite is probably 'Oh Brother, Where Art Though?' by the Cohen Brothers because, besides being just generally great, it shows how weird American's are (really weird).
Some favorite books are the first edition of Leaves of Grass and Walden - only in the U.S. could some of the country's greatest books be about a self-proclaimed prophet who sings about arm pits or a cranky loner who worships beans...
I also like 'Journey to the End of the Night' and 'Thus Spoke Zarathustra' because being gloomy and bombastic is always cool, right?
I don't know much about music, but I tend to listen to a lot of classical, even though it's not exactly the vogue - but really I'll listen to whatever, blues, blue grass, dixieland, etc.

Una cosa incredibile che ho fatto

Hiking in the north Cascades

Insegna, impara, condividi

I have no useful skills - at all. I can analyze literature, but that's about all I'm good at, so soon I should be able to add 'pumping gas' to this list. I guess I can help you with a little classical guitar technique and show you some cake making skills though. I know Seattle fairly well (well, mostly just the things that cost under 5 dollars) so once I open my couch to the world I can give 'this is where Peter likes to go for walks' tours.
