About Me

*UPDATE 9 March*
Hey CSers. We're going offline for a bit so not accepting any guests - both very busy for the next few weeks.

Adrienne and Scott are two New Zealanders living in Wellington. We have lived here since 2008, buying our own home in June 2013.

A little about us..

Scott:
I was born in Margate, England. My family moved to Papua New Guinea when I was 3, where we lived for two years. As my Mum is a kiwi, my family returned to New Zealand, settling in Auckland. I grew up in Auckland until I was 18, when Mum and I moved to Woodville, Ontario, Canada for a year.

I attended university when I returned to NZ, studying horticulture in Palmerston North. It was at University I extended my enthusiasm for the outdoors, with tramping (hiking or trekking), rock climbing, mountaineering, back-country skiing and, well anything outdoors, really!

As a poor, broke University student, I joining the Army Reserve as a way to get paid for some outdoor adventure. This morphed into my day-job following university, as spending my hours in a lab surrounded by trays of fruit didn't seem like a good way to spend my hours...

Adrienne:
Born in the centre of the North Island, I grew up in Taupo then West Auckland. I work at the Wellington Central Library, where I manage our library services for children and teens. I've travelled quite a bit around Europe, Asia, America, Australia and around New Zealand. Though I haven't seen as much of my own country as I'd like! As well as working full time, I'm studying information science part time, and am a medic in the NZ Army Reserve.

Us:
In 2011 and '12, we spent five months exploring the west coast of Malaysia and Singapore, two months trekking in Nepal, and another two months motorcycling from Delhi to Jaisalmer, south to Daman then across India to Darjeeling and back to Delhi via Agra.

We recently did another trip to Asia, just for 6 weeks this time. We went back to Nepal to trek a different area of the Himalayas, and spent a week defrosting in Malaysia on the way home.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

With a house, garden and cat, we were worried about leaving everything for six weeks while we were travelled. So we advertised for a housesitter, and found Tomislav and Maria. A quick Skype later, and we were soon metting two crazy Croatians at Wellington's airport.

Tomislav's profile notes he is an author, and indeed he is. Google 'Tomislav Perko' and '1000 Days of Spring'. An accomplished traveller, Tomislav is a long-serving advocate of Couchsurfing, and has inspired us to do more with what we have, to help those travelling Aotearoa.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Survived 8000km and two months motorcycling around India alive. We put this down to a combination of luck, buying a karta (Nepali ceremonial scarf) at Boudanath Stupa in Kathmandu which we then wrapped around our Royal Enfield's handlebars, and spinning as many prayer wheels as possible.

Teach, Learn, Share

We can take you to some remote beautiful places in Wellington if you're willing to lace up a pair of running shoes (or hiking boots)

What I Can Share with Hosts

Chai, good coffee, a comfortable night's sleep (private room with large bed), secure parking, a VERY friendly cat who will snuggle away your travel stress, conversations comparing our worst and best travel stories aka, a warm lounge for chilly New Zealand evenings, like-minded friends, a haven from bus and guest house touts (oops, sorry, wrong country!), and most importantly, a good shower.

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, Malaysia, Nepal, Netherlands, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Portugal, Scotland, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Turkey, United States, Viet Nam

Countries I’ve Lived In

Canada, England, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Timor-Leste (East Timor)
