ABOUT ME

I enjoy learning from and listening to other people and seeing life from other's experience. My music education and military service have taken me all over the US and Korea. I like reading modern philosophical fiction, listening to books on tape (smart phone) while I work-out. I'd love to sail. I don't know where people find time for TV, life is too short for me. I'm a classical pianist composer in a partnership of 3 years. My partner is on the east coast and not traveling with me. I spend late nights writing music on paper with pencil or on the laptop. My favorite drink is coffee in the morning and tea the rest of the day. I make my living playing piano and writing music. I like all art and books, modern and classics. I'm reading vol 2 of Karl Ove Knausgaard's latest. My latest discovery: Lennie Tristano, the jazz pianist. About the only music I can't stand is wrap, unless I've had a pro of strong coffee and then I could join in.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I allow others their space. I like to listen. I also like to perform. I play the piano or other instruments better when I know someone is listening. I hope to be honest and helpful. If you start jumping up on the table I may not jump up there with you - I'll cheer you along, though. If you need a friend to just sit quiet and not offer advice but just be present, I do that too.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Since 2007 I have had nothing but good experiences. It is amazing how helpful and caring people acutely are. Once picked up some guys on a lonely road, they were hitch rides from TX to Anchorage. Took them to my Grandparents for the night, where I was going. The three of us have been long friends since!

Music, Movies, and Books

I write contemporary music and I like it the best. For relaxation I listen to jazz, classical, anything! I like to read fiction written by non-American writers (get a different perspective). My favorite movie is Blue and second favorite is Red. I'm reading vol ll of Karl Ove Knausgaard and loving it. I just discovered the jazz pianist Lennie Tristano and loving it too! Horror movies aren't my favorite but I just watched Dark Sky and loved it!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I perform free improvisation of classical music in performance settings, the longest I've performed without a break was 5 hours, just to see if I could do it.

Teach, Learn, Share

I like to play for people when they want to hear me play the piano, my way of sharing. I like to listen and spend most of my time doing that.
