About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Experience

ABOUT ME

I am a poor, hard-working Kansas boy with an insatiable curiosity for cities. I grew up in the middle of nowhere, and I'd like to visit many somewheres. I am an architecture student and I cannot help but learn from every new cultural experience. I usually travel during school breaks due to my unforgiving semester while university is in session.

PHILOSOPHY

I read too much, sleep too little, and I know that every new experience (comfortable or not) will push me to grow as a person.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I exclusively surf. I would like to host, but my current shoebox of an apartment is too small for even me.

Interests

I am a workaholic, I am driven and fueled by architecture and any related discourse. I love to sketch and I always have.

Music, Movies, and Books

Capote is my favorite film so far. My favorite authors are Dickens, Steinbeck, and Wilde. As far as drawing goes, Ralph Steadman is my idol.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have wanted to be an architect since I was eight and the Hagia Sophia was my favorite building as a child. I always wanted to visit it, but I never thought I would. This past summer I finally got the chance to go to Turkey on an archaeological dig and I stayed in Istanbul while I was there. I finally visited the Hagia Sophia. Seeing the mass of the dome above me, the beauty of the space around me, I couldn't even speak it was so gorgeous. Photographs could never communicate the immensity of that feeling. I truly saw the Hagia Sophia for the first time.

Teach, Learn, Share

I believe architecture can only truly be experienced in person, and as an architect, I feel that my education is and always will be incomplete. I can make it less incomplete, though. ;)
