Well.. if you read about my interests.. you will get an idea, a picture and even a sound.. ;)
Places.... I have a strong tendency to absorb the surrounding environment... so being in the right place at the right time is half way to completeness. My favorite places are:
-Countryside- I spent part of my life in a rural area... I really miss the open space solitude.
-Beach- Feeling the Sun, all over your body, makes you forget everything, every single time.. specially, after getting wet, during the CHT (Cold-Hot Transition :>(lol).
-Historical and Contemporaneous LandMarks- I like the empowering feeling of past and present human achievement
Sports, I practice some, at a amateur level, and have had a few official competition experiences. I gained a profound respect for all athletes and sports but my favorite ones are:
-Martial Arts, specially TaekWondo and KickBox. I would like to try, on a more consistent basis, Krav Maga.
-Surf, BodyBoard version (really novice)
-Auto Racing, I love Karts and Rally :P
-Athletics, basically running.. even thought I find pole vault fascinating.. it´s not simple to try it out without a high risk of breaking something important :D
I am a Art affectionate, in various forms. I am particularly interested in:
-Film, although I very much like to see them.. I really love the making part.
-Human Kinetics, magical, especially the dance domain... I like the modified saying.. "There is a place in France where the men wear no pants.. and that´s because the women know how to dance".
-Photography, again, its more about the making.. than the seeing
-Painting, my favorite.. Gustav Klimt with his "Kiss, The"
-Fashion (not the commodity version), often considered superfluous, in my opinion it´s "simply" the greatest confluence of uniqueness, creativity, beauty and hard work in crazy and perpetual 6 moths cycles... I really suggest Elie Saab and Cavalli
-Sculpture, João Cutileiro with his "Meninas" series.. they are made of marble but very much alive. I will put my favorite one in the gallery :)
-Architecture, I really like Santiago Calatrava works, he has a structural engineer and architecture degree.. so.. his constructions.. really push the envelope. In the case of Gare do Oriente.. he forgot the Winter edition.. lol :)
-Comics, get to know Mutts, by Patrick McDonnell, and you will understand me. I usually say that nice people love Mutts :).. so... it`s a good test for new acquaintances :P
-Music, greatly extended down there..
Impact Maximization, well, it is a abstract concept, but I really believe in it. It is typically associated with enterprise governance but I like to apply it to life, even thought it requires large amounts of energy. It is defined as the endeavor to make the greatest positive impact on any given set of social factors. I am specially interested in the following enablers:
-Business Management and Administration - Latin Edition.... ok... private joke.. lol
-Entrepreneurship, we live in era where information technologies (IT) engineering is, and will be, a strong human evolution driver. To persecute it, we will have to embrace persistent and sustainable venture initiatives. The entrepreneurship spirit is, above many other things, in the core of positive change.
-Engineering.. its one of the things I love to do, problem solving....
-Information Technologies.. like communication networks and pervasive computing.
-Politics, specially decision making in complexity... (this is a love/hate relationship :)
Reality Creation and Sustainability... heheh... if the former one was abstract.. i don't know what to call this... well, i just wiki it and.. it seams that the word is Metaphysics. Unlike the name could suggest, it is very personal, amateur and unpretentious.. and my interest is specifically directed at:
-Spirituality and Religion as shared reality middleWare and sustainability mechanisms.
-Philosophy as the mother of this thematics.
-History, as a way of understanding the present and predicting the future.
-Dreams, specially Day Dreaming, as a way of reality envision.
- auto racing
- martial arts
Music, Movies, and Books
-RadioHead and its Ok Computer was definitively my first musical love, nowadays Kid A.. goes deeper and farther.. it still gives me goose skin after so many years.
-Muse with Absolution.. ok.. take off a bit of the alternative gender part, at least in relation to RadioHead, put more rock in the mix.. join even more love, anger and fear.. and you get the fantastic Muse Emotional Dynamic Range ;)
-Fatboy Slim, a complete Palookaville fan, it gets me jumping.. Its a wonderful night... ;)
-Chemical Brothers in their less commercial and darker incarnations.. but I have to confess that I really have a bit of catching up to do.
Bossa Nova/Brazilian Music:
-Venicius de Moraes & friends poems and lyrics sang, preferably, by Elis Regina and accompanied by Tom Jobim at the piano.
-Maria Rita, well its Elis daughter ;), the first album is superb.. specially "Menina da Lua"
-Chico/Caetano/Adriana, well.. I`m certainly being unfair.. each of them deserves a place on it`s own... :)
Classical, I`m at the end of my classical music phase, I think. It has been a good 4 months.. :P
-Rodrigo Leão, a classical-modern Portuguese composer :D.. and a very good one too! I recommend the "Cinema" album as the entry point.
-Maurice Ravel, specially "Concerto in Sol maggiore per pianoforte e orchestra", the second part transmits you a pure sense of hope trough out a musical path that has been compared to life's journey.
-Samuel Barber with its Adagio for strings as one of the best examples I know of compressing profound emotions into small modules of highly charged musical expression. (It has been used in several movies :)
-Paul McCartney, with Ecce Cor Meum.. I know that he is best known for being a former Beattle.. but he has some classical works, and I particularly like this one, there is a surprise for who finds out why... :)
-Big Fish is a very visual and emotionally rich life story directed by one of the bests in doing it. Tim Burten accomplishes extreme simplicity and beauty recurring to a fantasy dimension that completely merges with "reality". There´s no other film that can bring together so much.. friends, family, destiny, love.. it`s life and ultimately.. death. I really love it :)
-Memento is a very demanding and rewording movie.. in the beginning.. or end, because the film is in reverse, it leaves us lost.. them it asks for our complete and undivided attention.. but, in the end (or beginning :), everything comes together in a way have never seen before and have yet to see again.
