Hi. My name is Shani. I am 32 years old and I was born and bred in Melbourne, Australia. I currently work in IT as a Business Analyst and Systems Specialist within the online education sector.

This is my first foray into the world of couchsurfing and while I acknowledge that I am probably coming into it a little later in life than most of you, I am approaching it in much the same way that I attempt to approach everything in life: with a mind which is as open and a heart which is as big as the sky above my head and the ground beneath my feet. Once I’ve experienced what it is like to be hosted as a couchsurfer, I would very much like to be able open my home to travelers who are visiting the wonderful city of Melbourne.

I have been many things throughout the course of my life so far but I hope that the one thing which has remained consistent despite all other changes is that I’m a genuinely good person with a good moral compass who believes wholeheartedly in the ideals of kindness and inclusiveness. I am passionate about human rights and I consider myself to be a devoted ally to and supporter of the LGBTQIA+, PoC, differently abled, migrant, refugee and internally-displaced, minority and indigenous and female communities. I cannot and will not abide discrimination of any kind nor any views or opinions which are divisive or damaging to already heavily marginalized members of the world community.

I am what could be called an 'extroverted introvert'. This unfortunately means that in the initial stages of acquaintance I can be quite shy and can come across as something of an enigma, but fear not!: where I feel a real sense of connection with someone, I will warm up to them very quickly, after which time I become a veritable open-book.
