Found about CS several years ago. Had a very impressive surfing experience. Can't say enough.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Just twice, with my daughter. Super-nice host, and a special thanks to her super-nice sisters. Talked for hours.

As for books, I tend to prefer non-fiction.

Seva (selfless service, aka volunteering) at Kripalu (a yoga center in western Massachusetts) in 1995. I felt blessed.

I've also had many transcendent experiences high in the mountains while snowboarding. Aside from that, traveling has provided a lot of amazement, both in the US and abroad.
