About Me

CURRENT MISSION

act with compassion, positivity and gratitude. experience life without the need for photographic proof

ABOUT ME

Born in the 80s, went to school for a really long time, got a serious job. Quit serious job, hit the road, adventured my brains out.

Priorities changed. Now I work for fun, as a productive cog at a non-profit, instead of whoring my way up the corporate ladder and saving for retirement. Currently residing in San Francisco. Firmly in favor of hard work with intermittent retirement; life is too precious to wait until 65 to start living.

PHILOSOPHY

avoid the Dunning–Kruger effect

embrace simplicity- wanting and appreciating the things I already have

Why I'm on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Actively seeking to learn from and share ideas with positive, inspiring folks along the way. Hoping to meet more CSers this year as I begin my next journey to Spain, Morocco, Jordan and Portugal this spring of 2013.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Apprehensive at first, but since having joined CS in 2010, I have had nothing but great experiences with the community.

Made it into my second ever host, Seattle´s very own Shawn Saleme's article in the Seattle Globalist.

It's been a fulfilling experience to ping pong back and forth between surfing, camping and backpacker living. All are important components to traveling since each style marches to rather different beats and rhythms. I don´t use CS as merely a means to find a free place to stay for a night. While a couch is always appreciated, it´s the interaction with a local host that makes logging into CS worthwhile.

Interests

climbing rocks and hanging out with bugs
telemark skiing
road, mountain and motorbiking

One Amazing Thing I've Done

backcountry ski-toured in the Pyrenees, kayaked the Napali Coast, slept under the stars in the Jordanian desert, lived out of a car and solo adventured for over a year, seen the sunrise from above the horizon, cycled down the Californian coast, traveled 100km of the South African Transkei by foot, surfed with dolphins, scaled some pretty cool rock features, jumped off of various bridges and out of various planes, swam above a pod of Southern Right Whales, seen puppies being born, traveled to 30 countries in 30 years

an idiot savant's adventure up El Capitan:
