About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To make friends in Ottawa, Ontario and Canada

ABOUT ME

I'm Scottish lass on a year's teacher exchange programme from Glasgow. A fun, lively, curious, happy, outgoing kind of person. Up for a laugh, a party and an adventure. I'm honest, kind and friendly. Interested in meeting people, making new friends and learning new things.

PHILOSOPHY

Honesty, integrity, tolerance and compassion. I am a socialist as I believe we should all live with a sense of responsibility for other people, esp the more vulnerable among us. I am because we are. Strong sense of community and social justice.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Looking to meet people in Ottawa city who can show me about the place. As I have swapped jobs with my Canadian exhange partner, we have also swapped houses, so I'm in her house in Barrhaven, outside of Ottawa. Glad to give new friends a meal and a drink but not sure if it would be OK to have people stay over as not strictly my house, will take it as it comes.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My friend has been a couchsurfer for years and we stayed with a couple of fellows in Freiburg, Germany, which was good fun. She always says how much she enjoyed it and advised me as a person in a new city, to join in order to meet folk. So, here I am !

Interests

I find new places, new people and new situations exciting and interesting. I love to do my own thing but I also love to feel part of a community of like minded folk ( family/friends/volunteer group/ counchsurfers... ) I love music and I LOVE to dance to good tunes, my favourite thing. I cycle everywhere I can, meditate daily and read, watch movies and cook to relax, sometimes I write too.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love Jamaican music ( reggae to lover's rock to dub), West African music, punk, post punk, indie, electronica, motown, northern soul, bluegrass, soul. I am a big fan of movies from film noir, anything with Bette Davis in, Speilberg 80s classic, Kubric and Ken Loach's stuff, world cinema, French New Wave, cult classics, spoofs and sci-fi. I like to read John Irving, Muriel Spark, Ray Bradbury, Roald Dahl's short stories, reading 'Kes' just now.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Washing elephants in the river at a nature reserve in Nepal, they were so silly and sweet, splashing me about with gentle charm.
Driving by Mount McKinley and feeling so small and wondrous, like a tiny ant looking up at a mighty tree.
Exchanging wedding vows with my true love as the church clock struck three, it's the magic number...

Teach, Learn, Share

Glaswegian sense of humour, Scottish banter, how to dance like the devil in the pale moonlight ( Jack Nicholson as Joker in 'Batman', I know, but great line !!)

Countries I’ve Visited

Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cyprus, Czech Republic, France, Gambia, Greece, Guinea, India, Italy, Laos, Latvia, Thailand, United States

Countries I’ve Lived In
