Hi! My name is Smai.

I started the whole "sell everything you own and become nomadic" thing in July 2015. I rode my bicycle from Idaho to Washington, lived on a dairy farm, then rode my bicycle from Norway to Poland, stayed 3 months in France, then 3 months in Georgia, farmed in Turkey, taught English in Poland, and now am back in France...

Various things I have been paid to do include being a suicide and crisis counselor, graphic designer, translator, mule packer, trail builder, trail crew leader, English teacher, recruiter, carbon nanotubes researcher, construction supplies deliverywoman, and problem solving facilitator. So yeah, I've a lot of interests. :)

Por que estou no Couchsurfing?

I've surfed a bit, hosted a bit, interested in more. Now that I've bicycled so long alone and have experienced the indescribable feeling of gratitude that comes with someone opening their home to you after you've been traveling strenuously and craving human contact... I want to pay that back. I can't tell you how thankful I am for the people that put me up; a lone journey would be impossible otherwise.

Uma Coisa Incrível que Eu Fiz

Knocked on strangers' doors who don't speak English asking if I can set my tent up in their yard for the night while bicycling, ended up sitting around their table with Google translator having a family dinner and sleeping in a warm bed :)

This was the most incredible lesson I have ever learned about humanity, and I am driven to continue to further the simple kindnesses between individuals.
