To get as much out of my life as possible and not let it just pass me by, and to have a positive affect on the lives of those around me.

ABOUT ME

I am a student in college, majoring in art, with an emphasis in multimedia. I believe I would like to be a professional photographer of some sort. My father was an airline pilot, so were able to travel a lot relatively inexpensively. I went to a lot of different countries when I was little, but I dont remember most of them, sadly. This whole couch surfing thing is really appealing to me because I hate being or feeling like a tourist. Possibly because I feel like it puts me into a stereotype of people who are intrusive and ethnocentric and view the culture and people they are visiting as some sort of novelty to be marveled at, when in reality, they are just like us. Especially from an American perspective, usually the things we see in other countries that seem weird to us are actually quite normal in most parts of the world. I'm learning in my Anthropology class that Western- and especially American culture is so different from what the rest of the world and the what the majority of human history has experienced. We are ignorant when we assume that everything that is not normal to us is not the correct way of doing things. So I would say that my mission is to really learn about these other cultures in the world from an insiders perspective, rather than as someone poking and prodding at some new unknown species.
