About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Don't wear your wishbone where your backbone should be

ABOUT ME

My name is Alexandra, and I grew up in Brooklyn, NY. The first time I really traveled outside of the U.S. was when I studied abroad in Florence, Italy. I fell in love and spent that summer traveling through Europe. I am obsessed with traveling and always determined to go somewhere. Last summer, I lived and worked in Beijing, China, as a reporting intern there, and this August I will be moving to South Korea. I have two brothers, and older brother who is a professional rugby player and a younger brother who is just starting college. I studied journalism and international studies in college, and I plan on going back to school in a few years to study journalism and sociology. I want to be a foreign correspondent and write for a magazine and eventually use my experiences to become a professor and publish a memoir.

PHILOSOPHY

"Don't wear your wishbone where your backbone should be." Elizabeth Gilbert, Eat,Pray, Love

"Experience is what you get when you don't get what you wanted." Randy Pausch, The Last Lecture

For The Kids - FTK Always. Penn State's IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon, the largest student-run philanthropy in the world, that raises money and awareness for pediatric cancer.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I can offer any advice about my traveling experiences, like things I did that I liked and disliked, places I wish I stayed longer/want to go back to, etc. I'd also like to meet new people who have traveled all over and hear about their experiences by getting coffee or lunch or something.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

None. I heard about couch surfing toward the end of my backpacking through Europe, but we were headed on our way home. I have kind of been in transition from school to internships to school to the real world, so I haven't had a couch to offer as a host yet, either. Meeting people (especially since I am new to the Cape), is definitely something I am interested in.

Interests

Traveling, Writing, Reading, Soccer, College Football, anything penn state, Surfing, The beach, meeting new people, exploring new cities/countries, Going out, hanging out, Penn State's Dance Marathon (www.thon.org). I'm usually down for anything.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

There's so much, but probably when I felt like I was on top of the world during my trek through the Tiger Leaping Gorge in China. I remember just seeing the clouds drift past me at eye level, and I didn't have to look up into the sky at them. My other top experience would be participating in THON at Penn State, a 46-hour no sit, no sleep, marathon that raises money for childhood cancer. FTK Always.
