About Me

Travelling through the Americas looking for skateparks until August. Just finished in South America, currently in California. I live pretty simply. Everything I own fits inside my backpack except my skateboard. I definitely believe you don't need a ton of stuff to be happy! I like being outside, skateboarding, good coffee, good beer and good burritos! Hell I'll even take a bad burrito.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Because I blew all my money on beer and empanadas in South America. Halp. Haha. Mainly because I don't really have much in common with your generic hostel backpacker. They're usually only interested in day tours and getting wasted. But hanging out with locals gets me vibing! :) don't get me wrong - I love drinking beers and going to gigs and whatever - just not into the whole 'SHOTS! SKULL IT!' kinda thing...

Interests

Skateboarding, coffee, burritos, beers, dogs, photography, documentaries , music. I think minimal (and sustainable) or 'off the grid' living is fucking cool. I love people who don't just accept and adhere to society's expectations of them. Do your own thing!

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Rock n roll, metal, punk, reggae.. Anything rock n roll from the 60s and 70s. And 90s skate punk gets me vibing! The Shrine for example. So sick! The Doors, Pentagram, Sticky Fingers, Black Sabbath, Misfits, The Runaways are just a few of my favourite bands.

Movies: I'm a documentary fiend right now. I just watched an amazing photography doco called finding Vivian Maier. If you're into documentary photography, you'll be blown away. I'm obsessed with skate docos - dogtown and z boys of course, the rise and fall of gator, the Christian Hosoi doco. I find it a bit difficult to get into fictional films these days but I get stoked on music films like The Doors or The Runaways. The Boat That Rocked is also a good one. Almost Famous and Drift (Australian surfing movie) are also a couple of old favourites. Damn I could go on but I won't.

Books - Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett and Kane and Abel by Jeffrey Archer are probably a couple of my favourites. Both those dudes write really great, and on point, historical novels.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Camped out at Slab City for a week - emptied the pool and skated it (google it - it's an off the grid community in California)

Teach, Learn, Share

I never worry about the small things in life because ultimately, I am a very, very small speck of dust on what is just a huge ball of gas and other shit hurtling through the universe. Earth could collide with something in any given moment and your world could explode, but you're still worrying about what that kid from high school thinks about you? F*ck that! Just enjoy yourself and do whatever you want. One day you'll be old as shit and you'll kick yourself for caring so much.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Travel experience (South America especially) - plus I used to be a travel agent. I'll tell you all the tricks of the trade! ;)

I generally like to do my own thing and I'll never hang about expecting you to babysit me so I'm a pretty easy guest. I'm usually looking for the closest skatepark or exploring the streets with my board and a backpack. Happy to hang out in the evenings with some beers or music or dinner or whatever if you want but again, no pressure on you.

And of course if you're ever in Australia, the offer of a couch would immediately be returned :)
