CURRENT MISSION

We are currently embarking on a global adventure to SE Asia, Australia and New Zealand with many stops on the way. We have three months in SE Asia and 1 month in Australia and then hopefully 1 year in NZ!

ABOUT ME

Sophie:I like to think of myself as a fun, outgoing and friendly individual. I always dreamed of travelling the globe, so after I graduated I worked very hard to save up enough money to fly off with Arthur. We are currently halfway through our SE Asian adventure and are having the most fantastic time meeting new people, seeing beautifoul sights and exploring new cultures. We hope to couchsurf as much as possible along the way to meet as many new people as possible, but also to experience our destinations from a local point-of-view.

Arthur: I'm a very chatty person and there's nothing I enjoy more than talking for hours on end to my friends or someone I've just met in a bus stop. Having said that, I'm quite a restless person and like to be actively doing something most of the time, I have quite a short attention span so I like to keep myself busy with something! I've been lucky enough to travel to some fantastic places before (and definitely caught the travelling bug!) but this trip has been my first big adventure. I finished university last year and then worked my socks off for a year so that we could come away exploring the world!
Meeting people and getting a taste of local life is what travelling is all about, why travel half way round the world to sit in a bar that's just like home? That's the reason why I want to couchsurf and see the places you'd never find on your own!

PHILOSOPHY

Try to learn as much as possible about different cultures/people from yourself. You will understand people a lot more. Everyone is guilty of it but don't judge someone in the first 2 minutes, give them a chance. You may not get along, or you may have made a friend for life.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

As we are away travelling, we cannot offer a couch at this point in time. But when we get to New Zealand, where we hope to work for a year- there will be a couch up for grabs! And definitely when we return home too.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Neither of us have couchsurfed before, so we are keen to get started!

Sophie: I listen to loads of different music and love going to festivals. We're lucky enough to live 30 mins from Glastonbury!
When travelling through Cambodia I read "First they took my father", a very moving and heart wrenching book about the Khmer Rouge regime - I recommend it to any one who would like to learn more about the horrors that happened not that long ago.

My movie guilty pleasure is definitely Love Actually! It just reminds me of Christmases at home and of course has Hugh Grant! Also a big fan of Drive despite the gore.

Sophie: Baanchang Elephant Park, Chiang Mai. Paris in the spring/ summer/ autumn/ winter... Angkor Archaelogical Park, overcoming a huge fear and trying scuba diving.

Arthur: The most starry sky I've ever seen down on the coast of rural Ireland, surfing metres from huge basking Sharks in Cornwall, Being an extra in a Bollywood movie! And finally doing my open water diving qualification and seeing a completely different world!
