About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To make my cash last for as long as possible while I blaze across the USA

ABOUT ME

I'm just a normal bloke. No really. As normal as they come. Probably on my way to the 2.5 children, white picket fence and a Volvo in a few years.

But before that, I want to get some travelling done. Maybe one of you can help me with that?

PHILOSOPHY

That "Do onto others" one is pretty nifty, but I also like this one "Life's journey in not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to slide in sideways, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, screaming "HOLY CRAP what a ride!"

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

For now I want to give surfing a shot. If it pans out I'd definitely be up for some hosting in future.

Interests

DISLIKES Red tape, paper cuts, BMW drivers, speed bumps, people who stand still to see what way they need to go at the top/bottom of an escalator, litter, tea without milk, coffee without milk, people who give giftvouchers, Txt spk, cramp while I'm sleeping, mosquitoes (why are they here? Anyone?); pineapple on pizza; pineapple on burgers; the fact that marketing dipshits think just because they threw a slice of pineapple on it's suddenly 'Hawaiian'. NEWSFLASH ARSEHOLES: Pineapples aren't even from Hawaii! People who don't use turn signals, soap operas, cameras (normal, video or speeding...especially speeding), annoying ringtones, twits that let their phones ring in movies, repeating myself to morons, useless colleagues, hangovers, MTV, Steve Hofmeyr, Kurt Darren and almost every other Afrikaans male singer; celebrity magazines and celebrity worshiping culture in general...oh...and Hugh Jackman*.

LIKES Adrenalin, road trips and travelling, traffic cones, Cyanide and Happiness comics, biltong, live music and music festivals, cracking my knuckles, cracking my back, cracking pretty much any part of my anatomy that is crackable...I don't care how gross it might be, stand-up comedy, Natalie Portman, watching people pick their noses in traffic, picking my own nose in traffic, sleeping in on cloudy days, Simba Chutney Chips, inappropriate jokes, coveting my neighbour's ox...okay he doesn't really have an ox, but if he did I'd probably want it; riding in lifts, old towels that actually absorb moisture, wearing flip-flops, saying the word 'flip-flops', red wine, procrastinating, "post it" notes and playing 30 Seconds...in no particular order.

Music, Movies, and Books

BOOKS Mmmm...I don't read nearly as much as I'd like (or should) but my favourite book(s) is without a doubt Douglas Adams' Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy "trilogy", um...all five of 'em. Absolutely brilliant. Other favourites include Orwell's Animal Farm and 1984, Sun Tzu's Art of War and the whole Terry Pratchett Discworld series - which is a very good laugh.

MOVIES: The list is very long but some of my favourites include Fight Club, The Shawshank Redemption, Garden State, Donnie Darko, The Big Lebowski, Memento, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Se7en, Serenity, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Snatch, Lock Stock and 2 Smoking Barrels, Boondock Saints, Lucky Number Sleven, big (totally inaccurate) war epics like Gladiator, Saving Private Ryan and Band of Brothers; most Dramas and most comedies. I'm also a big fan of the whole comic book to movie trend, and although most of them fail miserably X-Men, X-2, Constantine, V for Vendetta, Sin City, Batman Begins and 300 made sitting throught the hordes of crappy ones worthwhile.

MUSIC: Everything in between the musical spectrum from Acoustic singer songwriters through Indie, past Grunge and Hard Rock all the way to some Metal. I could list 'em all here, but that would take too long so I'll only name 10: Audioslave, Bob Dylan, Chevelle, Kings of Leon, Led Zeppelin, Nirvana, Nine Inch Nails, Queens Of The Stoneage, Radiohead, Tool...dammit I couldn't do it! The Cure, Interpol, Iron Maiden, Metallica and Snow Patrol need spots too! Let's leave it at 15 then.

Some favourite local talents I like are: 16 Stitch, Albert Frost, Bed On Bricks, Diesel Whores, Fokofpolisiekar, Fuzzygish, Matthew van der Want, Toxic Shame and Wickhead. Bah, I'll throw Seether and Dave Matthews in here too, they are from here, so they should also count.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

So many amazing things in this world...

Hmmm...I've bungee jumped the highest bungee in the World. All 217m of it. That was pretty amazing.

The Okavango Delta in Botswana is awesome...especially when viewed from a dugout canoe.

Oh...and I've seen Muse and Metallica live. That's definitely up there

Teach, Learn, Share

Hmmm...I am a Master at messing up the punchline for a joke. If you need help with that, I'm definitely your man.

Also, I'm a pretty decent math and science tutor. Dunno if they are in demand in the Couch Surfing Community
