About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To live with authenticity, creativity, and lots of yuks.

ABOUT ME

Let's see... a bit bohemian - not by design - just somehow turned out that way. Can be wickedly irreverant and funny. Convention and conformity don't come all that natural to me - and could be why I was recently run out of town by a torch bearing crowd...just (sort of) kidding... I've worn lots of hats ...usually with a rakish tilt. I've driven limousines and boats, sold and wrote advertising, managed a yacht charter service, tracked submarines, produced a television show and several large special events, flipped burgers on the Long Island ferry, and tailed cheating spouses as a private detective - among other things. It's all good, and all fodder for the writing of essays and slice of life memoir type pieces I like to do. I'm lucky enough to have a circle of loving and supportive friends who share my quirky sense of humor and don't mind sharing space with my wierd collections of flea market stuff.

PHILOSOPHY

Be kind, be real, laugh a lot, don't give unsolicited adivce, and try not to hurt anyone.

Music, Movies, and Books

For movies, just off the top of my head: The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, The Princess Bride, Everything Is Illuminated, The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, My Favorite Year, Local Hero, To Catch a Thief. Music - Jeez, where to start? Tom Waits, Roomful of Blues, Los Straitjackets, Taraf de Haidouks, Jesse Colin Young, Colwell Winfield Blues Band, Elvis Costello, Ry Cooder, almost anything Cuban, Amy Winehouse, Chicha Libre, Cold Blood, Dan Hicks, Isolbel Campbell and Mark Lanagan, yikes - where to stop? Books - just discovered Douglas Kennedy's "The Moment" - can't wait to read his other novels.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I bought and lived aboard a wooden two-story, cedar shingled houseboat for 17 years. Stayed aboard during hurricanes and Nor'easters, met sailors and strays from all over the world.
