About Me

Create unforgettable honeymoons for couples:

ME: 33, born in North Dakota, grew up in Nebraska, studied, wandered, worked all over. I'm fascinated by everything international and follow travel trends via various websites. Bloggers/podcasters opened my eyes to new ways of getting from A to B which inspired me to bicycle tour South America and decode frequent flyer programs for free travel.

My free time is mostly spent reading or listening to podcasts, but breathing, movies, and good food are also high on the list. I'd rather have a real conversation with one person than smalltalk with a hundred. Someday I will cover the walls of my someday-shipping container home with B&W prints from my travels around the world.

Trevor Fun Facts: my smile is lop-sided; I flush public toilets with my shoe; I turn off lights; I find poetry in refrigerator word magnets.

"I am endlessly curious, I am not endlessly wanting to buy things." - Andy, The (Crazy) Hobo Traveler

"There are only four things you can do with your money: acquire stuff, buy security, create memories, and make the world a better place...Make up your mind to spend your money wisely...because you've invested one day of your life to get it." - Jim Stovall

Fortune Cookie, February 12th, 2007: "You will travel to exotic places."

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

OPENNESS: You write, I write, viceversa. We can share ideas & couches.

Whenever possible I organize gatherings, parties, dinners, and outings with local CS communities both where I live and in cities I visit.

Couchsurfed every continent. Hosted 50+ travelers in my Texas apartment. More in my Costa Rican, Brazilian, Argentine, Thai, and Colombian homes. Many hosts and surfers remain close friends to this day.

INTERESTS: Traveling dirty-like; backpacking feather-light; the insanely nerdy bubble that is the miles/points world; podcasts; rechargeable things; camping with friends; long bike rides that reset the mind; sushi; studying the psyches of vagabonds, addicts, pirates, criminals, and those on the edge of society; biographies; chess; basketball; people who transcend the norm like Henry Rollins and Manu Chao; being on a beach at sunset and in a jungle at night; learning languages over good coffee; sailing; diving; tropical turquoise waters; capoeira; hip hop's history and expansion throughout the world; food that makes your head sweat (Indian, Thai, Mexican); Latin America; thinking up short stories I never write.

Music, Movies, and Books

MOVIES: Brazilian cinema lately, but I love anything good from high budget Hollywood to independent film from around the world. When I have a home I'll buy a proper projector/sound system and grow a digital collection of world movies for a weekly movie club in my living room. Quote me on it.

MUSIC: I love discovering new music on Spotify. Lots of randomness lately: Up Bustle & Out, Danay Suarez, Suba, Criolo, Habana Abierta, Alt-J, Sabotage, Telmary, and French hip hop that I don't yet understand. Up-and-coming Brazilians Veronica Ferriani and Roberta Campos make me want to marry them.

Favorite musicians: Mike Doughty, Steve Mason, and Luca Prodan.

AUTHORS: I try to read uplifting authors but at bedtime I'm always cuddled up with the down-and-outers who live/lived their literature. I'm inspired by adventurers who become writers because their lives are stories needing to be told.

My favorite book of all time is Shantaram.

MEMORABLE BOOKS: Papillon, Flash, Serpentine, Mr. Nice, Azteca, La noche boca arriba, The Beach, Unbroken

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Imagine neon lights, 2am darkness, and closed storefronts armored with metal curtains in downtown San Jose, Costa Rica. Now imagine an elderly homeless man on the sidewalk with his pants around his ankles barking at a dog who barked back from three feet away. The dog was terrified; its hair raised in defense. It wasn't the most amazing thing I've ever seen, but it's an image I'll never forget, one that scrolled in slow-motion from the taxi window. Humanity summed up in a moment.

Bicycled across South America.

Once saw a UFO. Swear on my mother.
