À propos de moi

CURRENT MISSION

Missions......I seem to have lost my mission log...where'd it go? Must find it...

ABOUT ME

Well, hello there! I'm terrible at writing about myself, so pardon this lame introduction. I promise you, when you really get to chatting with me, I'm actually a very fun person to talk with!

I suppose education would be a good place to start this thing off, right? I graduated with a BA in English in 2008, and I'm planning on returning to school in the next few years to pursue a MA in Social Work, focusing on working with nonprofit organizations. And of course, someday I'll join the Peace Corps and just experience the events/culture that you wouldn't get otherwise!

I LOVE to travel. I wish I did a lot more of traveling when I was in college, and more able to, but I'm still working on traveling as much as I can, no matter where I'm at in life! When I visit new places, I usually try to go off the beaten path a tad bit, make up my own tours of the places I go to. I don't do too well with guided tours. Never have. I find that learning about locations and touring with my friends, either someone acting as a guide, or just us discovering for ourselves is a lot more fun, and it's more organic. And I much prefer that. :) One of my dreams is to travel the world, and have friends everywhere that I can stay in touch with and chat with. I'd love to stay in other countries for a length of time...be an expat of a sorts. :)

I'm always up for meeting new people! If you're an out of towner visiting my hometown, and I happen to be there and available, I'm more than happy to show you around the town! Oftentimes when I show people around town, I learn something new about Austin myself, which is fantastic for me. And of course, getting opportunities to make new friends is always great!!! :)

Well, I think that's all I can come up with right now...I'll add more or update as I figure out what I want to say. :)

PHILOSOPHY

Treat others the way you want to be treated. If you want respect, treat others with respect. Always be open to new experiences, don't judge. Give your 100% effort in doing things that matter to you, and things that matter to other people. It's extremely vital that you try to follow those philosophies all the time, especially with travel.

I strive to learn, and to be respectful of others, and to appreciate the opportunities that I have!

Pourquoi je suis sur Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm here to network, learn more about other people, add to the network of friends that I currently have outside of Couchsurfing. I'm also here to meet people, of course, and make new friends through travel! I believe that the only way you can truly experience the world is to travel, and to immerse yourself into the different lifestyles/cultures of the world.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've had very little couchsurfing experience, actually! I've met a couple of friends, and I've had friends come visit me from out of state, and they've all been enjoyable! One of my favorite times hosting was when I had a friend from Canada visit me, and he stayed with me for a week. I took him around three different cities and showed him the sights, and at the end of the stay, he surprised me with a beautiful flower bouquet as a thanks for letting him stay with me. I was really touched by that!

Centres d'intérêt

Photography, writing, volunteering (this is a BIG thing for me), going to museums(history/art are my favorites), wine tastings, hanging out with friends, playing board games or mulitplayer games with friends, hosting parties (themed parties are the best!!), exploring my hometown.

Morceaux de musique, films et livres

Right now, I am reading TONS of different books on my Kindle (yes, I am an avid reader...always have been, always will be!). As for physical books, I'm reading a few novels, such as The Girl Who Played with Fire, and THe Man Who Loved Books Too Much. I tend to gravitate towards young adult novels, but as of late, I've been reading a lot of literary novels.

As for movies, I like to watch movies with friends. I'm not an avid moviegoer, nor do I watch lots of movies for fun. I enjoy watching with friends because I get an opportunity to share that experience, and discuss the movie after it's over. :)

Music - I love music. Odd as it may be, I'm deaf, but I LOVE music. Right now, my major obsession is grunge/rock. I listen to a lot of Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, that sorta thing. I also have a wide range of music stashed in my iPod, such as Adele, the Beatles (you CANNOT have a great collection of music without some Beatles!!!!), Nightwish, Holst, pretty much any genre you name, I'll likely have. I don't have rap, though...I'm not really a fan of rap music. To each their own, right?

Une aventure extraordinaire que j'ai vécue

I might sound a tad simple saying this, but the most amazing things I've seen...are the different sunsets around the States. I was born and raised in Texas. I LOVE our sunsets, it's gorgeous, the array of colors as the sun sets. However, I was riding through Phoenix both times at sunset when I was going to and back from California, and I was struck with how different and beautiful the sunset was, and in San Diego, when I saw the sun setting over the ocean...one of the most beautiful sights in my life, and so peaceful. If you can go to the beach, go to the beach, and watch the sunset. It is truly amazing!

Enseignez, apprenez, partagez

We never truly stop learning. We will always learn something new every day, no matter where you are, no matter what stage in life you're at. So just open your mind, and accept that you'll learn something new. Maybe you won't be comfortable, but at least you know something new!
