About Me

I was born in Boston, MA and grew up in a suburb north of Boston. I attended Skidmore College in upstate New York. Immediately after college I moved to northern England and taught at a Quaker coed boarding school where I was also a housemistress supervising girls ages 10-14. After 4 years I moved to Durham and taught at a teacher training college that is now a college of Durham University. At the same time I studied for an MA at Birmingham University (UK). I moved back to the US after 10 years in England and began a career in the software industry in Cambridge, MA. Immediately before retiring I was a Senior QA Analyst for a software company in Silicon Valley. I also bought and ran a restaurant in New Hampshire for 2 years. In retirement I am the founder of the Three Corners Women's Giving Circle (threecornerswgc.wordpress.com and facebook.com/threecornerswgc). My partner Kjeld (who's Danish and a glider and power pilot) and I love to travel. In the last few years have visited the following countries: England, Denmark, Romania, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia, Montenegro, Australia (Melbourne and Tasmania), New Zealand and Tanzania.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To meet interesting people when we travel and experience the local culture (food, art, architecture, among other interests).

Interests

Philanthropy, microfinance, hiking, golf, cooking, travel, local wines. Have also done triathlons.

Kjeld's life revolves around aircraft of all kinds and he also does welding and artistic metal work.

Music, Movies, and Books

Kjeld and I have totally different tastes in music. I like 70's and 80's music mostly. Also like some current artists (not rap or heavy metal!) and classical music. He likes classical/modern guitar, piano, Lawrence Welk (!) and 50's oldies.

I read mostly news, The Economist magazine, travel articles, modern art articles.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Founded a women's giving circle and currently do all the admin work for it.
Hiked the amazing Tongoriro Crossing in New Zealand.

Teach, Learn, Share

Love learning about new technology, women's issues (I'm a product of the women's lib movement of the 60s), foreign politics and issues. I could teach basic computer skills to those that are familiar with computers.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Certainly could share cooking skills, recipes and computer skills.

Countries I’ve Visited

Andorra, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Denmark, Fiji, France, French Polynesia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Monaco, Montenegro, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Romania, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Tanzania
