About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To boldly go where no Goth has gone before.

ABOUT ME

I'm a friendly Goth girl with a head full of useless, esoteric knowledge about random stuff, usually involving H P Lovecraft. I shall shortly complete my PhD research, which investigates the visual representation of the world in sixteenth- and seventeenth-century collections known as curiosity cabinets.

I like strange and unusual things, love learning about local traditions and customs, and collect little bits and pieces wherever I go. I'm passionate about history and heritage, and I'm keen to gain international perspectives on the subject as I'm not (yet) very well-travelled!

As a guest, I'm quiet, neat and tidy. I appreciate the trust being placed in me to stay in another's home, and I will respect the rules of the house. I love animals, especially cats.

PHILOSOPHY

To appreciate the small things in life, and to always make the most of the opportunities which present themselves. Not to give up if there are no opportunities, but to create my own instead!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm new to CS, and at present I'm a lodger which unfortunately makes it a little difficult for me to host travellers myself, but I look forward to meeting members of the CS community abroad!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

A friend of mine couch surfs, and it comes highly recommended! I think it sounds like a wonderful idea, and I'd like to participate.

Interests

History, art and architecture, museums, music, mythology, costume and corsetry, burlesque, the theatre, relaxing with friends over a cup of tea, reading dystopian fiction, attending Goth festivals and exploring new cities.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: I'm happy to give most things a try, except cheesy rom coms! I particularly enjoy science fiction and fantasy films, classic horror movies and films from the silent era. Some of my favourite films are Blade Runner, Dark City, The Crow, Labyrinth, Metropolis and Dragonwyck.

Music: Various things, from classic 80s Goth to dark electronica, ethereal, floaty stuff and period music to classic rock and heavy metal. I like Nile, Slayer, Judas Priest, Sisters of Mercy, Leaether Strip, Hocico, Gary Numan, Megadeth and Dead Can Dance, among others.

Books: Various dystopia, science fiction and fantasy, graphic novels, and lots and lots of nineteenth-century literature. Favourite authors include George Orwell, Mervyn Peake, Bernard Cornwell, Angela Carter, Neil Gaiman, F Scott Fitzgerald, Nathaniel Hawthorne and H P Lovecraft.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I once visited the Palermitan catacombs. It was one of the most otherworldly and humbling experiences of my life.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can tell you all about the strange world I am exploring, that of the sixteenth- and seventeenth-century curiosity cabinet. I can advise you on what corset you should wear, and how to wear it, and teach you how to dance the Lindy Hop. I can recount an amusing escapade involving Windsor Castle.

Countries I’ve Visited

Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Sweden

Countries I’ve Lived In
